What is the maximum mileage I can drive for until I really have to have an oil change on my '07 New Beetle Convertible? Mine is way passed due for its 5000 mi. check up, it is now on 7000! I just can't find the time to go...(and the dealership is not conveniently located). But anyway I'm going in a few days, but do you think it'll be okay?

Sorry, I know nothing about cars, except that it's really fun to drive with my convertible down!

Definitely not recommended.

While 3months/3000 miles was the older recommended duration between oil changes. Many manufacturers are allowing for a 5 month/5000 mile interval. I'd never trust the 7 month 7000 miles interval. Most of the time this interval leaves the oil highly dirty and very low in viscosity.

The more often you change your oil, the longer the vehicle will last. That's really all there is too it.

If you want your car to last a while, get your oil changed immediately, or learn how to do it yourself. Just remember, the better you take care of your car, the better it will take care of you. Abuse your car, and eventually you'll find yourself stranded on the road one day.

you may void your warranty if you go over the mileage as recomended in your owners manual. Also, you do not have to have the dealership change your oil. I have done my own maintenance on all my cars and motorcycles for years. Just keep your receipts to prove when it was done and use the oil that equals or is better than the manufacturers specs. For that matter, you can take it to jiffy lube r any other place that has a fair price and get it doen. Again, just keep your receipts. I keep all my receipts tucked inside the same folder in the glove box that the manual is in. This will keep your warranty active. Just make sure you do all the checks or service listed in the manual for each service.

As aweful as this may sound to anyone, but I rarely ever get an oil change. As of now, I am over 25,000 miles past due on an oil change and my car is still running great. Before that oil change, I went 7,000 miles, and before that oil change, I went almost 28,000 miles past due after I first bought the car.

Now at that time three years ago roughly around this time, my car had just over 70,000 miles on it when I first bought it. So you figure, I went roughly 60,000 miles just on only two oil changes with my mileage now being nearly 130,000 miles on it and it's still running mint. Does'nt smoke, choke, or anything else, and still running like a kitten.

If you ask me, unless you're going to keep a car for a million years or something, I would'nt sweat it like most people do. Just run it until you get the time to have it change... Everyone claims you won't get the life out of your motor if prolonging your oil changes, and maybe that's so. I think the problem with many is, this is all they ever hear is keeping up with your oil changes from the day they were born. So what happens is, they panic the day they're past due with their oil change thinking their car is gonna die or something the next day or so.

But who today really puts these things to a test? Well I'll answer that question myself, ( I DID,, and that's how I know ) ... I'm 46 now, and been like this with oil changes since my 20's and never had a problem with any of my cars. I think that's long enough to know how long you can actually go without an oil change. That's over 20 some odd years with me experiencing it, and nobody convincing me any differently now. So it's your call with oil changes.

Now I have a question for many. How long does an adverage person keeps a car? Say what maybe, 2 or 3 years is the adverage before buying something else you think, or maybe 4 tops for the most part? If your car can't survive 2 to 4 years with just a couple of oil changes, then I don't know what kind of car you're buying then. Now unless you're planning on keeping your car longer, then change your oil a little more often then maybe. Because all of mine has ran great with hardly any oil changes and that's putting on thousands of miles with each one I've owned without it smoking and still passing the emission test!

Today I only listen to myself. If I would have listened to everyone else, I would have spent 1,000's of dollars with oil changes for nothing. Yeah maybe the next person may or might have a problem with the car later on because of you slacking with your oil changes, but are you willing to spend all that money thinking for the next guy? Because I won't ( sorry )

Well it depends on the type of driving you do. If you are driving a long commute your oil should last longer. It breaks down when it cools down and heats up when you first start it each day. But if you are putting a lot of miles on it (ie, fewer startups on your 7,000 miles) your oil will last longer.

That said, you need to get in to the dealer. Just do it. Put it on your calendar and go (make an appointment also). If you don't take care of your car, it will wear out a lot sooner, and you'll tire of it and want another. If you treat it well, you will find you like it much longer, and keep it well after you've paid it off.

I prefer to get my oil changed every 3,000 miles. The owners manual may say 5,000 or higher, but I don't trust them. They want the car to wear out so I'll buy another one.

It's extremely important to follow the recommended drain intervals as written in your owners schedule of services. If your dealer isn't conveniently located, get it done at any NEW CAR DEALER and keep your receipts. You may need them later if their is ever a warranty issue with your car. Don't mess with any quick or fast oil change places. They are a disaster waiting for a place to happen. Too many horrible careless mistakes happen.

You must understand it's to your advantage to keep it serviced regularly as written in your handbook. If anything were to happen to your motor and you had continually let things slide VW's warranty would disappear faster than Casper the Ghost!

Should not be a problem. Many people change the first oil interval early @ 3000 miles but after that a lot of manufactures have intervals of @ 7500 miles. Get in soon as you can. Have fun!

anything happens to the engine they are going to ask for the maintenance records and you better get the oil change you can go any where to get it done like jiffy lube or Midas. the oil has to meet the SAE 505 for a TDI and a 502 01 for gas. I am not sure if your engine requires it every 5 or 10k miles check though. get it done ASAP if it is 5k and from that point on follow the maintenance schedule in the maintenance book in the owners manual.

it extremely is not a superb theory finding for a motor vehicle based off of seems on my own, till you do no longer strategies passing some greater money and are particularly routinely vulnerable. The MKIV VW's are not the main good automobiles around. I very own a 2001 VW Jetta, it extremely is not precisely a money pit yet i can't see dealing with a year without something going incorrect. i've got had it for merely over a year, and that i've got had a overheating undertaking by way of a thermostat (shops needed $2 hundred to interchange; $20 to purchase) and aux cooling fan ($one hundred twenty to purchase), I actually have a lifter tick (do no longer even prefer to comprehend what the dept shops want for that). Now, i've got finished each and every of the artwork myself with the intention to keep extremely some money, and that i savor engaged on it. in case you do no longer and/or can no longer arise with the money for the greater desirable expenditures to maintain those automobiles, i might might desire to point you seem at something else. it extremely is not basically that element the two, the automobiles could be very puzzling (German automobiles are notoriously puzzling) routinely. elementary oil and coolant ought to be the stuff you may no longer locate in maximum places, subsequently greater costly. VW additionally cheeped out on some factors, generating low value plastic for issues interior the interior or perhaps the waterpump (that's nicely-known to fail; $30 to purchase; $4 hundred for shops to place in). i comprehend you needed the experts: - they're intense-high quality rides, very comfortable and elementary to rigidity - they're VERY risk-free automobiles. - they have incredibly intense-high quality MPG; around 28. - they have a brilliant aftermarket following. yet lower back, they are no longer very good in any respect. it particularly is the biggest con and the explanation why human beings purchase them, then resell them quickly after. in case you do no longer strategies greater desirable expenditures, by utilising all potential bypass forward and get one. merely don't be taken aback whilst something is going incorrect.

The first oil change is the most important. You are not doing yourself a favor there, it will shorten the longevity of your engine. At low mileage, you are still breaking that engine in, and it's crucial that you change the oil. Screw all the other 'suggested maintenance' stuff - but the oil change is absolutely crucial!!!!

Get it changed soon...do you even check it? It won't be much fun if it doesn't run. And don't go to the dealer, go to an "Instant Oil Change" place, it's quicker and I usually have time on my lunch hour. Always perform routine maintenance, it helps avoid costly repairs later if you take care of it now.
