pagan covers a wide array of beliefs
from wicca, to odinism, theres just too many to go into
for the most part, there are a set of beliefs, but as i said each induvidual follows his or her own path and follows what he or she believes in
neo-paganism, for example, practices traditions passed down through centuries.
paganism is actually one of the few religions i have a high respect for
oh by the way, wiccans, neo-pagans, odinists are ALL pagans, pagan is the christian term given to them for not believing in the christian god

I am somewhat of an eclectic solitary Wicca, with aspects of Druid, Celtic, American Indian and I also follow the traditions of Correllian (1st degree priestess). Wicca means "Willow" in the Celtic/druid society. I do follow my own path on all but the Correllian since that was formal training. I have a full set of beliefs and traditions that I have set up for my solitary practice.
A note for HK, this is the modern day, and marrying girls off at 11 or 12 is against the law. I know, she is talking religion, not domestic. Besides, unless you are from the deep, deep, South it'll never happen!

I'm Asatru. Heathen. Um hard to answer. We do follow a standard set of beliefs. Certian things just don't fit into Asatru. Now by "passed down traditions" we do have the Edda's. These are big ones for us because it's lore that is the closest to original that we have. These are the basic "guidelines" so to speak. We follow ONE pantheon. The gods are SEPERATE and individual. Many of us think that if you don't do this then you are not Asatru. Do not claim to be. Reconstructionalist get all picky about that stuff. :)
As far as finding thepath individually, hmm. I'm not sure what you mean. The gods called me all by myself I suppose. I was the onlyone in the room anyhow. LOL All it takes in a call from the gods. You either hear it, or you don't. it's that simple.

My own path.
My spiritual philosophy is actually Taoist, but the Celtic pagan system of holidays that celebrate each aspect of the life cycle during a corresponding place in the year really speaks to me. I like to celebrate life and I like the cyclical aspect. In general a lot of the symbolism is appealing.
My spirituality is very personal and so I can't image going about it any other way.

I started out over a decade ago with neoshamanism and general neopaganism, then moved on to Chaos magic for a while. Along the way I studied and worked with several other paths, though not to as great a degree as the above.
These days I am working on formalizing my path for myself. You can see what I've been doing at http://therioshamanism.com

Well, as I'm eclectic I pretty much make mine up as I go. I have studied a wide variety of religions and philosophies and more or less filtered them into something I can work with.
It may not be traditional or authentic to other people, but who gives a fig? It makes sense to me, and it works for me.

Frigga
Do you believe in these customs of the vikings?
"Viking girls were married away when they where 12 to 15 years old. It was then expected that she would be able to run the housekeeping and do the work belonging to women at/on the farm. The arrangement of the wedding (to find who their son or daughter should marry) was the duty of the family chief. The Vikings looked at the marriage as an assurance of common help and protection between them. Normally the girl had no right to choose her husband according to her own desire."
Just curious if you are picking and choosing your beliefs and "Americanizing" your practices. I find that this is very common among the American Buddhists, Hindus, and Pagans.

i'm finding my own path for the most part. i do lean towards thelema a bit though. luckily, it is open to some interpretation lol.
i don't like to just accept things, so i'm not much for tradition, unless you can tell me why this or that is done this way.
i believe everyone is entitled to finding thier own way and for some that is the traditional route. it's just not my way.

As a Wiccan, I evaluated the Wiccan values presented by my first teachers, found them good, and adopted them as a result.
