I am a female; 14. I am allowed to redo my room finally!. It has been pink sunset with barbie sheets for 10 years. I am able to do whatever I want. Finally, I think I know what I want. My favorite colors are buttery yellow, light blue, and light purple; also black. My main store to get things will be walmart. I love penguines and dots. I found the perfect sheets. Also, I found purple curtains. A black and white blanket, too. I plan on painting my room the yellow and painting my door with black with purple and blue polka dots. Right at the top of my wall I am going to put cute quotes and my favorite quotes. "Life's a sandbox; dig it" and other qurky sayings. My furniture is all white. I have a twin bed, white night stand, and a bookcase. My room is 9x9 +/-. Any suggestions? I plan to seperate the quotes with a circle. Thanks.

I do believe I'll like my room for 4 more years or longer. once I go to college, my little sister gets her own room (from her twin). So I can't draw much on my wallm but she like dots too. Should I do beads at my closet. I have no door there, since my puppy has his bed there. That's the only place he'll sleep. Maybe blue and purple beads alternating.

as for arrangiing my rooom there is only one way i like it. my closet and door are on same wall and window on opposite wall. i can't put bed anyther way or it either makes room look small and leaves no flooor space or makes it where i can't get to my dresser (my bed has dresser draws underneath. Also, with two dogs and a rat, I have to keep them in mind, Riddle has a hanging cage and Junior a chihuahua is old and doesn't like change

one last addition. I saw some polka dot place mats. they are 12 x 12 inches and would measure perfectly on my night stand and bookcase. I think it'd add another personal touch. Or should i paint little penguins or dot on by hand. either way Im fine. I would use spray adhesive one the place mats.

i am not painting penguins no my walls. I am just painting some small ones on my bookcase and on the ends of my night stand. Then I have a curtain I found at Target with little penguins on it. My bedsheets have dots and penguins. Also, I've ordered a candle dish thing that has penguins on it. I have a blue lamp from Family Dollar with blue sequin dots. I may have a penguin on my door. My dog has to be able to see me from his bed in my closet, soo I'm just going to get beads. He whines if he can't see me, but is just a pup and can't get off bed and i don't want any accidents. My other dog is on my bed. The quotes will be seperated by dots too. I bought a bathroom rug with penguins on it foor my door, it may help out my carpet.

i have started painting. I decided instead of painting the dots on my door, I'd use wall stickers. They look good. I love it. I have my door and three small walls doone (room isn't perfect square more like square with rectangle for door. lol. my dogs are made because they can't get in. my color is fruit citrus by Kilz casual coloors. It covers the pink good. I have a picture of door. just turn head t see.

sounds great! the light yellow will make the room seem bigger. I was at target today...they have penguin bath accessories that could also be used in your room... bath mats, trash cans, table top mirrors etc. if your curtains have not been purchased you might look into the lite blue for curtains to stay in one color scheme either way if the blue or purple is a solid color you could look at the clear plastic penguin shower curtain to hang over the solid color. you could also use the shower curtain (cloth or plastic) over the closet door. Use a regular window slip rod and the little penguin shower curtain hooks your puppy will have no problem learning to get through and will probably enjoy having a place to hide.

a double bed in a small room makes it look much smaller. If you really want it to look bigger, I suggest you get a single bed Get the bed on the wall and keep 1 table on the side, or get a bed that has a shelf included and/or space below the bed. I, too have a small room and my bed has so much space that I put most of my stuff under it. Multi function furniture is a must for small rooms Get rid of the dresser Mirrors can make your room look larger. Use a focal point and angle your mirrors towards it, which will give the illusion of depth. The mirrors also reflect both natural and artificial light to make a room brighter during the day and night. They bounce light deep into the room, making it appear larger. This is especially effective with near a window so the outdoors can be reflected. Mirrors on the walls and glass tabletops will make it seem like there’s a more open flow. You can also use mirrored cabinet doors to make spaces feel large and uncluttered. Hope I helped!

breeze has many of the ideas I would have suggested; especially, the penguin shower curtain on the spring loaded shower rod. Then go for additional mats, etc.. in penguins.
Yellow walls if not TOO bright of a yellow, remember paint color samples will be brighter than one the strip samples. Could even glue cork onto your door & use as bulletin board for quotes. Could take a large can (coffee can) & draw a circle (large dot) and paint inside of dot then decopage your quotes in center of each dot. I'm not excited about the beads unless you use as decor on your dresser or curtain.

Good ideas girl - - go for it.

I think that sounds great! You should be an interior decorator when you grow up. When I was 14 my stepfather painted my bedroom grey, my furniture grey and my mother made grey curtains. My sheets and blankets were white. I felt like I was in a penitentiary!!!!

I like your ideas ;)

Edit - Yes to the beads. Very funky!

I also think the placemats are a great idea! Again I say you should be an interior decorator when your an adult. I think your room is going to look like one from a catalogue.

You should be an interior decorator. I love your taste in colors. Everything that you said sounds extremely cute! I wish I had a creative mind like yours. Yeah, I do think it's time to get rid of the Barbie. Penguins are adorable so that's perfect. And as far as the quotes go, that's a very unique idea and I think that would be perfect on your door. Have fun decorating. Once you see the finished product, I'm sure you will be so proud of yourself!

Sounds really cute - although I would just do the dots and save the penquins for accesories. Very Mary Englebright but cleaner - might check out her stuff though! You could use black and white polka dot ribbon for tiebacks on the curtains or for just prettys hanging from the top (different lengths of ribbon at the top of the curtain). Separate the quotes with different size/color circles! You can also get "wall tattoos" that are basically circles cut out of contact paper - my daughter found hers at Bed Bath and Beyond.

Have fun!

Suggestions:
1] get a purple bedspread to match the curtains, and go with all the sheet sets.
2] do quotes in alternating colors - your blue, then your purple, etc. OR, maybe do one in cursive, then one in block letters? Be sure quote over purple curtains is in blue.
3] keep the penguins off the walls/doors, use in accessories as planned
4] use bead curtains as follows - one third blue, one third purple, and one third yellow [ alternate every third string if possible ]. Then use the blue or yellow beads as curtain tiebacks.
5] keep accessories [ throw pillows, lamps, vases.flowerpots, candles, and holders ] in the blue, purple, yellow, and white.
6] use the polka dot place mats for nightstand and bookcase, but don't glue on - they will sit neatly, and you can wash them perioically .
Additional Small Room Advice:
7] keep all art work in similar colors to room, and frame in same color/material - oak/walnut, brass/chrome, colored enamel.
8] one large floor covering [ rug ] makes the room look bigger
9] light bright colors you have chosen work well in small rooms - don't add any other colors [ but your accessories, in the white and black ]

Wow you like did all the stuff we were supposed to do! Well that's a good idea, and you can put you bed in like a corner, like the head part is like a corner, and your feet are like sticking out of the corner, know what I mean? And your nightstand can be like next to it, against the wall though. Sorry, not good at rooms. Good LUCK!

Just go with neutral colors, like vanilla and tan. What always makes a room look best, though, is that it's clean- no matter how well you painted your room, it'll look like crap if there are all clothes thrown around.
