I used a very simple count of gender illustration and written description of the cards in 10 decks....then I got tired of counting. Some of these decks were the Thoth Deck, Rider Waite, Gypsy, Aquarius, Native American, Hippie, etc.

Think about doing a simply patterned reading for a twenty year. The lovers comes up in his future...If it was a female, in the minor alone, you would have Kings, Knights, and Pages, but if you're reading for a male only the Queen for the distaff side. Then flip it around with a World for a female and her reading is buried under those same male cards.

For those who come looking....I appear to have fallen behind on the variations of Tarot Cards. I did not know of the Female Dominant Decks. I'm unhappy that a deck gendered equally has not appeared on the scene.
I had an outline of such a deck once, Ladies in waiting and young maidens were part of the whole, as was Joan of Arc. I must have it laying around somewhere.

I don't think that the artists were deliberately trying to put in male dominance, but were more likely following their vision of what the card said to them. I am fairly certain that the original Tarot (of a few thousand years ago) were predominately male, but as a reader, i assure you the thought of male/female ratio never came up.
The Empress, is fertility, but that does not mean only female fertility. The Magician, is about having all the tools you need at your disposal, and knowing what to do with them. male or female.
If it truly bothers you, draw your own deck up and use those. One for males and one for females. If I could draw a crooked line straight, I would do it myself. I would gladly buy the decks if you made them.
blessed be

With the exception of male themed, or female themed decks, I think that most decks are quite neutral. The majors are fairly balanced between male and female figures. The court cards is where more male images are seen, but the male cards don't always represent only a male person. You can have a woman that goes beyond queen like qualities and whose actions are more domineering like a king.
The way I see the courts is more of a personality and age definition. Pages are children & teens, or adults who act like a child, could also represent autistic adults. Kights are the young adults in the world, or people who are older but again, act young. Not immature, by physically active and 'plays' like a person who is younger than they. A snow boarding grandpa for example. The queens and kings are the older and wiser adults, or youth who are beyond their years in accomplishments or intelligence. These are the mothers and fathers or a boss, who may be younger than the person who is getting a reading, showing the chain of command in this case.

i actually read in one of the tarot books.... forgot where... it was over a decade ago... that the page was supposed to represent the female side of the knight and was supposed to be female and at some point it was transgendered.
maybe because in the playing deck 11 and 12 were merged into a jack.

Lots of the older decks are, but I'm finding the new decks(tho not able to use them) are much more about the feminism Devinne. I just got the Oracle of the Grail Code and it has no males in it(very strange).
