Is there an easier way to load a Marlin .30/30? I bought some snap caps for my Marlin and every time I load one into the magazine, it nips my thumb. It pinches it to the point where I get a bruise on my thumb and fingernail. One time it even took a part of the fingernail off. Is there any way to load it easier with out pinching my finger?

JD the package says, and quote, "Practice Loading, Dry Fire without Damage, Safe Storage, Exact Size of Real Ammo." Now, that doesn't sound like something that can mess up and jam my gun.

JD... I was just letting you know I knew what I was doing with my snap caps. I am posting this here because it won't let me reply to the message you sent.

actually the old trick for loading those side gates was to push the first round almost, but not quite all the way in, then, using the next round, push the first round all the way in and that round almost but not all the way in. Continue till full and that way, only the very last round gets a chance to "nip" you instead of every round.

Yup, my 1895 Guide Gun likes to bite me too, but being a .45-70 it has a larger loading gate.

Have a friend load it?

Randy has a great point, insert the snap cap almost all the way, let the next one get pinched, not your finger.

If you are just storing the firearm, open the action, drop one into the ejection port, chamber the snap cap, then pull the trigger.

yet another reason I do not own a lever action rifle
use the meaty part of your thumb not the point this way you actually hold the gate open and let it close controlled not on your thumb nail and point
and as randy pointed out use the next cartridge to finish pushing the next one in until you get to the last one

Why are you loading "Snap caps" in your 30-30 magazine anyway? Unless you bought Action Testing Snap Caps to begin with, they aren't designed to be used by working your rifles action. They are designed to be put in thru your open action. Just one and only one, not several. Loading more than one , and loading them thru your magazine is a great way to mess up your rifle, and jamb up the action........
