There are SO many purposes for hair. I study them in my cosmetology course. The main purpose for the hair on the head is adornment, and protection. How many times have you bent over and bumped your head on the corner of a counter or something? If you had absolutely no hair, the chances of cutting your scalp would be greatly increased.
Eyebrows are for protecting your eyes from water or perspiration from dripping down your forhead.
Eyelashes protect your eyes from dust...just like the hair in your nose. However disgustin it may be, it's there for a reason.
All that "peach fuzz" or "lanugo" hair is there to help your body evaporate perspiration quicker. If that wasn't there at all, when you sweat, it would stick to you you and not dry out nearly as quick.
And the hair in that seemingly useless and awkward place is also a protection...although I'm not going to go into details.
Oh, and hair on men's faces is there for...well, I dunno. I never figured that one out.

Because we're mammals...and all mammals have hair (even whales, believe it or not).
The hair on our heads keeps our body heat in (ever wonder why they put those cute little caps on newborn babies? it's to keep the body warmth in). The hair in our noses, on our eyelids, and in our ears helps keep out dust and foreign objects. And the hair on our backs, tummies, arms and legs is designed to help keep our bodies warm.

Other than warmth, it provides a business for some and it provides a way for people to express themselves. The way you care for your hair reflects upon yourself. (Hair is also mighty handsome! =D)

All mammals have hair.
It is to keep you covered and warm.
We have evolved so we don't have as much hair as our ancient ancestors...they were covered with thick hair...fur.
