He's 14mos. now.
He's a climber and has already once gotten out or should I say fallen out of his crib, he has gotten his leg over the rail...
I am worried, but not sure he's ready for a toddler bed.

He hasn't gotten out totally yet just one leg over the rail. and yes both rails are raised up....and kept up. he does sleep alone I am in the next room.
My daughter is 9 and I think we switched her at around18mos. I think??? she wasn't a climber though.
Chainging him to a toddler bed would entail putting safty locks on all drawers, closets, windows, and securing dressers to walls... ect.....

Too young. They have Crib tents that you can purchase so that the toddler can't climb out. Putting him in a toddler bed is just asking for hellish nights at this point. I would wait until he is AT LEAST 2, even a little older.

My daughter was two. We went to K-Mart and got a great toddler bed. It was simple, white and the crib mattress fit perfectly. I think we paid $30 for it. Try putting some of his toys or a favorite stuffed animal in the bed with him. Rubbing his back or singing worked well for us. During the first few months, our daughter (who was use to sleeping in our bed) would fall asleep in our bed then we would put her in her bed. After about a month, we were able to put her in her bed, say our goodnights and tell stories and read books.
You know your son best. When it feels right to you - then move him. If he can totally climb out, I personally would buy the toddler bed or if money is tight - simply but the crib mattress on the floor. Side rails are a wonderful thing!
Good luck!

If he is climbing out, it is time to get him a toddler bed. He could fall and get hurt really bad from the crib. A toddler bed is lower to the floor, but you should still put some soft bedding beside the bed for a safer landing if he does fall out of the toddler bed. When he gets used to it and doesn't fall out anymore (he most likely will until he gets used to not having rails)you can remove the bedding from beside the bed.

i have for children ages 5, 4, 4 and 8 months I changed my older kids to toddler beds when they were almost 2 years of age, 14 months is a good time to start switching over also but you need to get side rails put on the toddler bed and you can buy these really cheap at walmart unless you buy a bed that already have them. Yet keep in mind if you change to a toddler bed you need to make sure you arent a heavy sleeper so you will be able to hear your child get up

Sounds like it's time if he's trying to climb out. My son was around 18 mos or so, when we switched. I got bunk beds that we could use from then on (sturdy pine). This one had a removable rail on each side that was supposed to be for the top bunk, but I put him in the bottom bunk with the rails up to keep him contained. I put little throw pillows and stuffed toys around the rails to make it softer and further block him in. This bunk also had a trundle drawer underneath, which I pulled out slightly and filled with blankets, pillows, stuffed animals, etc. That way if he did manage to climb over the rail, he would have something soft to land on. You could probably accomplish the same thing with one of those fold-out chair-bed things, or just lots of big throw pillows on the floor around the bed.
I tried the toddler bed with my daughter, but it is just TOO easy for them to climb out of, and she would toddle out and down the hall and want to sleep with me, and when you are tired it's just hard to fight that.
Shop around and see what's available now--they have come a long way with furniture that converts so you can get longer use out of it. I think I would lean toward some sort of futon or day-bed or twin bed that would have a longer purpose than a toddler bed--just check how it's put together and how sturdy it is and see if it will be safe for a toddler.

I switched mine between 18 mo. and 2 years. All three were different. If he climbing out of bed he might hurt himself soon. I would do it now. Make sure his room is safe for him because he will be alone in there if he crawls out of his crib or his bed. I would also continue to use a baby monitor so you can hear when he is awake. Also shut his door when he is in bed to he cannot wonder the house while you are sleeping and hurt himself. His dresser is also dangerous. They learn quickly how to climb up things and will eventually open the drawers to climb up them. This can tip the dresser over on top of him. It will not take long for him to stay in his bed. At first they explore their freedom a bit.

Anytime after a year they have rails for kids beds .My first was about 14 months cuz here sister was on the way and my little one was about 16 months i believe .Id diffenetly get a small toddler bed they sell them cheap at walmart or fisher price has stages. Some people do wait till around 2 but personally I think that make it a harder transition.Once you switch to a bed you will want to make sure there are child locks on the doors and a baby gate (if he cant climb that )on hes door to try to make sure he doesnt get into bad things before you wake up .

Good question....I am the mother of two ages 5 and 3. Both were in regular beds before they turned 2. If you're worried that he'll fall out of a regular bed you might want to consider just letting him sleep in a mattress (or something that's only a few inches off the floor) on the floor that way he can get the feel of a regular bed, yet if he were to roll out, he won't get hurt cus he won't have as big of a fall. It sounds like he may be ready for a "Big Boy" bed.

ok if he has climbed out then yes you shoudl think about transtioning him soon. if he falls out while climbing he could break a bone, smash his head real good or even strangle himself if his clothes get caught up on the crib itself.
Putting a baby in a toddler bed is hell for the first few days, the realize that OMG I can get out, and play etc etc, sure you put him back but he will probably try again. But I am certain you would rather have to deal with that than a trip to the hospital.
He will adapt to a "big boy bed", my daughter never slept in her crib she always slept with me, she is almost 5 and just about a month ago started sleeping in her bed, by herself for at least part of the night.

i'm a mom of four, so I actual have a tad little bit of journey with this! It purely relies upon on the youngster. My women were more desirable stressful about the replace than the boys. both women were in somewhat one mattress by using the age of two. the boys were somewhat over 2 earlier they made the replace. Toys were contained in the rooms each and each and every of the time. They knew to bypass to sleep at the same time as they were informed, because I sat in there with them, study a narrative, and prepared til they fell asleep earlier I left the room. It labored more desirable that way for me to spend somewhat previous time-honored time with them contained in the quiet! they'd upward push up the following and there earlier me as children, not very oftentimes because i turned right into a operating mom then. in the journey that they did awaken earlier me, they could come ask what changed into for breakfast! They by no skill frightened about playing, purely ingesting, contained in the mornings! in case you tell him he's a wide boy and get truly enthusiastic about it to illustrate him how thrilling it truly is, he will be more desirable apt to make the replace a lot less stressful. it truly is what I continuously did!
