Mine is about 12 feet long. In the middle I have a large painting, on each side of it and rather close is an arrangement of tall candles. On the other side is a small antique lamp. At both far ends of the mantle I have an ivy arrangement to balance it out. Hope this helps.

My living room theme is of the big cats such as cheetah, panther, tiger, etc.. I found white rabbit fur hides with stamped decor of tiger stripes on 2 of them and stamped snow leapard on 2 others. These are on the mantle instead of a doily. I have my son's tropies on top the these 'doilies'. Then, above the mantle is arrangement of big cat pictures. Two statues of cats in front of fireplace (each 1 to 1 1/2 feet tall): one is a lion & other side has tiger.

A mantel clock, candle sticks, photographs, maybe a mirror behind it all with crystal knick knacks. Maybe a few antique books with decorative bookends.
Heres a link to my mantle..just my taste though.
