I work in the medical field and bad work ethics can be seen in a big way. However, I have also worked in retail, restaurant, and other places I've noticed that poor work ethics is like a plague. It is not just by the youth, but some older people have it as well.
Don't people know that it reflects on business and can result in bad profits which can lead to no raises.

Caitlin,
Exactly. What I don't understand is when people complain about their jobs and it is apparant that they hate by the looks of their performance, yet they work there for years.
When I know I hate a job, and after months of the "Give is a shot, you just had a bad day". I start looking for another job.

It used to, but since management aids and abets this, it does me no good to rail against it

I cannot stand people without a good work ethic. It can also lead to unemployment. The laziest people are always the first to complain about something that someone else did not do. I believe that most of your work ethic comes from how you were raised and the other comes from character. People also will not take responsibility for themselves.

It is hard for minimum wage workers who have to hold multiple jobs just to provide for their families. A lot of companies hire people on false premises, promising them more hours, a raise after 90 days, and levels of training that will continue to give them more raises, which in the end never occur. If people were paid what they were worth, and their boss spent 5 minutes a month to praise them on something, then I think we would have happier workers, hence better work ethics.

the unfortunate thing about poor work ethic is that it can be like the plague.... when one person has it they can pass it off to others... it can sometimes over run a business..... i work in the restaurant industry and i have seen it so many times..... it drives me crazy because i am a firm believer in enoying the job you have..... taking pride in your job and what you do reflects directly upon you..... so ya, i totally agree with you and wish more people felt the same

Not really, unless it effects me directly, such as I have to cover someone else's tasks at work.
But on the bright side, its the lazy ones that make us look better! Not that I'm very work orientated myself, but I at least put effort into my job.
Also, sometimes those people that you see might just be having a bad day, or are feeling ill, etc. Maybe they get horrible pay for a job they hate.

Yes, it does. It's epidemic in this country. I think a big part of the problem is that people think they are owed something. And they think they aren't being paid "enough", but they took the job, agreed to the salary, agreed to perform the duties.

Maybe if people go paid more money so that they don't have to struggle to put food on the table while the cost of everything keeps going up, people would work harder!

They don't care. Their goal in life is to get away with as little work as possible and they will probably pay for it in the end.
