hey.

i shoot a remington model 700/ police edition. but i have done alot of mods to help the accuracy and durability.

but i have yet to find military (sniping or competition would be great) grade ammo. As of right now i am a civilian, if that matters.

i shoot a .30-06 springfield and i have the barrel for the 7mm mag. and a .308.

so where can i get the best grade ammo. preferably something like a boat-tailed sierra.

well i guess i should have said bullets, cus thats what im looking for. I already load my own. and i understand ballistics. but when i was up at Camp Perry,Ohio last summer the people had actual military competition rounds. like molded and perfected my the marines. so i was kinda looking for some so that i can see if they would help.

and yeah, the rem. 700 is the best. it allows me to hold a small frisby size group at 900 yds, and a group the size of a basketmall at 1000. so i hope to pull it into like a softball.

thanks all

Custom reload you're own ammo. The cost at the start is a major investment but with time you can tailor you're ammo for you rifle with all barrels. Some barrels will do better with different types of bullet configuration, you will have to experiment and shoot quite a few different rounds to find the best ones. Good Luck and happy shooting.

I shoot a Remington 700 30-06 with a trigger job and a good Nikon scope on Burris rings, factory bedded composite stock. It prints 3/4" at 100 yards with certain lots of Federal Premium 180gr. Nosler Partitions. Tried reloading to better it but can't do any better. Go buy several brands and bullet weights of good quality factory ammo and find the one that shoots the best.

I load my own. I can load it +P or less if I want. You can't buy ammo that is loaded to your needs.

If you don't reload then you might want to check out www.cheaperthandirt.com or www.sportsmansguide.com now it's the same company but they sell all calibers and many different brands. I've bought thousands of rounds from them both and they deliver right to your home via UPS.

Oh, I love the Remington 700. I fired one once and hit a playing card three times at 230 yards, it was sweet.

MidwayUSA.com - On their site you can read reviews for the different bullets to find the one that worked best for people who are shooting the same gun. If you search for "Sierra boat tail bullets" you can see all the different grain weights and tips.

Get a Dillon Precision Press. I recommend the RL 550B.

http://www.dillonprecision.com/

You can get dyes for all of your weapons, pistol and rifle.

Once you get a load down, ie. weight and type of projectile, brand of powder and weight of powder - for the particular caliber, you're set.

For the best precision, re-weigh each powder charge as the loader may be a few grains (I mean granules of powder) off.

Guns & Ammo magazine, perhaps?

Or your local sports shop or gun dealer?
