I always hear good things about garlic and I use onions all the time and I am just wondering if they have any benefits on health?

Onions are very nutritional. Research shows that onions may help guard against many chronic diseases. That's probably because onions contain generous amounts of a flavonoid called quercetin. Other sources are tea and apples, but research shows that absorption of quercetin from onions is twice that from tea and more than three times that from apples. Studies have shown that quercetin protects against cataracts, cardiovascular disease, and cancer.
They are natural blood thinners and heart healthy PLUS just like garlic they make for good cheap effective birth control. Below is a breakdown of onion nutritional values.

Depends on what nutrition you are looking for. yes they will lose some but by heating onions, the cellulose walls break down and the sugars are released. Sugars you wouldn't get in the same amounts as raw onion. Heating onions also gets rid of much of the sulfur compounds that cause the onion stink (and gas in many folks!)

sure they do, onions and garlic are used for medicinal reasons and they are healthy for you. Sometimes I boil a large onion, put some butter and salt on it (and a tad of sugar for sweetness) and eat it like a meal. Onions are a vegetable.
