A psychologist told me --
Hearing voices INSIDE your head is indicative of multiple personality disorder (for which there is a CURE)

Hearing voices OUTSIDE your head is indicative of other mental health disorders (for which there is treatment, but no cure)

---In Multiple Personality Disorder (MPD) also known as (DID) Dissociative Identity Disorder
The reason the voices sound different and distinct, and their opinion or age may be different from the others, is that each of the personalities has its own age and identity and opinion. Each one was formed at a separate time, under separate circumstances for the purpose of "protecting you the core person from trauma that was experienced"
--there is hope. They can learn to get along together, and they (with therapy) can learn to join together into the "core person" You may have holes in your memory, or "missing time". Those missing times are held in the memory of an alter personality

P.S.
When the voices are telling you to do violent things, or that you will be the victim of violence or evil,
You really need to be seeing an EXPERIENCED IN MPD
Psychologist for therapy and Psychiatrist for medication.
Don't be afraid of the medication. It will help to settle them down so you can deal with your life better and to be safe.

If you do not know where to call,
if it is urgent and going on right now and they want to kill you-- Call your hospital ER or Psych Ward.
If it is less urgent, call your local MENTAL HEALTH clinic
Either one of these can direct you to gifted and understanding Mental health professionals who can help you.

Your SAFETY is of utmost and urgent importance.

(((((((( The voices are telling you to kill??? Call 911 or go NOW to the ER ))))))))

I am a schizophrenia paranoid. I have in the past heard unwelcome voices in my mind saying strange and violent things. If the "voices" are clearly other than your normal little "voice" in your mind you think with, persist over a period of time (Weeks), and are unwelcome and frightening, then they may be hallucinations.

Type "hallucinations" into Yahoo web search and get more info on them. A number of links comes up but wikipedia is a good summary. Hallucinations can occur in a number of mental disorders, but are very common among people who haven't such a disorder. Only an MD or psychiatrist can diagnose such a disorder.

Two of the disorders in which hallucinations occur are schizophrenia and bipolar disorder. You should also look these up in a Yahoo! web search.

Good luck in overcoming unwelcome voices, good mental health, peace and Love!

They say that voices in your head is a psychotic disorder, if it is not your own reasoning voice. Have a chat to a doctor and tell them whats going on, you may need drugs to help you as well as counselling. I have a friend who had a hard time with voices telling her to do stuff, she took an axe to her dad's car and was sectioned and sedated as a result. She is now able to control the voices with medication and lives a reasonably normal life now. You can control this but need proffessional help to do so.

Sounds like you need someone to talk to, like a psychologist. You could have a major mental disorder that needs a professional diagnosis.~

It means you need to see a mental health professional. What are they telling you to do?

it means that something from your past may be coming back to haunt you...or that you're just having a mental breakdown from something that just happened recently
