The city is widening this road and adding a streetlight. One of the dumps trucks leaving the worksite was in front of me and a rock came off and cracked my windshield.

Do you call the city and tell them (will they pay to get it fixed), or do you call your auto insurance and place a claim??

You wont have any luck filing with the city, as it was a construction zone, and there not liable for rocks flying out, they may pay. But usally covered under you comp coverage on your insurance policy, and subject to the ded.

the city will never pay for this;

if you have full coverage, which includes collision and comprehensive on your policy, your company will pay minus any deductible;

if you have full coverage, it is lucky for you a windshield claim does not hurt you on your record; most states require that all windshields have to be repaired/and or replaced;

most of the time when you call, they will have an automated message asking if this is a windshield claim only and you can get this taken care of w/in 24 hours; most companies will come to your home or work and do it in a couple of hours;

good luck

Easy way to handle - call your company and file a claim under your comprehensive coverage. If they think they can successfully pursue the city for re-payment they will.

Depends, but you can usually call your insurance company. They will send someone out to your house, actually and replace it right there for you. At least that is what happened with me and Nationwide.

You can try the city, but most likely you will need to contact your insurance company.

Do both. Your insurance will be able to follow through on this matter.
