Pro: It's a natural, high quality protein. It is usually sold as a powder which is low calorie, low fat and low carb.

Con: If you are already getting more than enough protein from your diet and you take more than the recommended of whey
protein it can tax your liver. Now this will happen if you eat too much of any protein, but since so many love taking whey shakes it's a bit easier to over do it.

I love taking whey protein and although I am not trying to build muscle I like the assurance that I am getting enough protein in my diet.

Whey protein is considered easy to digest, unlike meats which take longer.

Muscles absorb the most protein the 30 minutes after a workout. You don't really want to eat much before the workout so you can use your blood for the workout, not the digestion.

So it's effective to eat whey protein (or soy) right after a workout.

Well there really aren't any cons, millions of people take whey protein as a supplement and I don't believe that It can hurt you. There are many benefits however, you will gain muscle faster, have more energy and be able to work out longer. I've been taking it for years and it's great,

Pros: protein is protein. You need it to build muscle.

Cons: More empty calories than soy protein. If you're trying to "bulk" up, that is not necessarily that bad, though. It is just more healthy.

I've heard taking too much protein can kill your kidneys. But i think only if you are taking 200+grams per day
