Well we love cruising and going to historic places. And what I have found is that many places in person are not exactly like the way they may be portrayed in movies, books, or on TV, or even the classroom. For example, a couple years ago we cruised the Mediterranean and had a tour to the Vatican City and the Coliseum in Rome and also to Pompeii in Naples. There is no way you can capture with any photo or video the immense size of St Peter's Basilica. You cannot see it all unless you are there. There are so many chapels inside that you do not realize are there when they show it on TV. At the Coliseum you cannot judge its size unless you are standing there looking.

You really cannot see the beauty of Paris unless you walk it on the ground. What shocked me about the Mona Lisa in the Louve was its a really small painting, about 15 by 15, while I thought it was more on the order of a 3 foot by 3 foot. Seeing it in person was an eyeopener.

We just got back from a 2 week trip to Africa and there is no way I could read in a book or look at a movie and learn what I learned about the country, Ghana, and its people.

Traveling is like the difference between watching your favorite sport on TV and actually being there in whatever stadium or event.

The sites you see, the things you learn. The sites you see, the things you learn. Of course, you can always be an idiot and just complain that nothing is like in America, which a lot of people do. Which is why I don't understand why they travel if they aren't going to enjoy themselves by seeing new things, experiencing new things and learning new things. I mean why go, if you are just going to act like an idiot? Stay home and be an idiot there, it's free.
