Yes, it can occasionally be fatal. The symptoms you're describing are indicative of a more severe alcohol withdrawal. Don't attempt to quit cold turkey. See a doctor first (and be completely honest about how much, how often and how long you have drank). They will give you benzodiazepines which will greatly reduce the withdrawal symptoms and help prevent more serious complications such as seizures and delirium tremens. Alcohol withdrawal commonly causes autonomic hyperactivity (increased heart rate, blood pressure, body temperature and breathing rate). If severe and untreated there is a risk of heart attack, stroke or cardiovascular or respiratory collapse. It can also cause repeated vomiting and profuse sweating that can quickly lead to fatal dehydration. The risk of life-threatening withdrawal symptoms is greatest in those who are older, who have physical problems such as heart or liver disease and people who have drank heavily, daily for many months or years. This is nothing to monkey around with so please be safe and seek medical advice before attempting to withdraw.

alcohol is one of the drugs that while coming off of people can actually die. If I were you I would go into the hospital and let them know you are withdrawling off of alcohol. They will give you a strong dose of valium or libreium. (I cant spell that word)......You can start going into DT's or have seziures and you can die. If you cant get into a hospital for some reason tonight go and get you a half a pint of some kind of liquor. That will stop the withdrawls until you can get help.

Seriously, if you drank on a daily basis, every day, 2=3 or more drinks, you will have some wierd side effectrs.

If they continure, for your own piece of mind a visit to your dr might be in order.

I was good for 3-4 cans of beer on a daily basis, but gave it up when I asked myself, 'who benefits more, me or Busweiser." Congratulations!

It CAN be fatal.

unfortunately, i don't know how to ID the symptoms that say you are about to die in the middle of DT's.

I bet if you called AA someone could tell you if you needed to check into a hospital for a couple of days. or you could call your doctor and ask.

it says if you are going through DTs, you need to be under a doctor's care - that about 20 percent of people whose withdrawal symptoms are the classics of DTs (hallucinations, shaking, heart palpitations) die.

so, talk to a doc - or go to the ER.

You can call the hospital rehab center and ask them what to do to help you through this bad part. I don't know if it would do you serious harm, but it sure sounds like a hard thing to go through, be proud of yourself for doing it
