i would go with an acoustic.. especially if you're learning to play guitar.. learning on an acoustic makes the transition to electric easier because acoustic strings are harder to hold down.. after that i would get an electric if you wanted to..

if you want to sing and play, do NOT buy a bass guitar. Or for that matter, an electric guitar. What you need is an acoustic regular guitar. Taylor makes good ones, but my personal favorite are the Ovation brand. They have a beautifull tone in the lower end and in their higher end. I wish they made a bass acoustic guitar as good as their regular guitars.

If you want to sing, and play at the same time, you need to get an acoustic. Most come with plug in jacks anyway, and you will still get that beautifull tone. When you learn well at the acoustic, you can buy an electric guitar and pump up the distortion, but that is bad for singing.

For electric guitars, i would recomend fender,( i have a loyalty to them sorta) and ibeanez. Both brandz make wonderfull guitars.

SO in a nutshell, buy a regular acoustic(NOT ELECTRIC) guitar and make sure it is NOT A BASS

I will have to agree with the first answer a SG is sweet Vintage G-400 its alsom. But the second answer is more right. A acoustic is the way to go. My band gust got dune recording to day it was an acoustic song we rote. And with guitars if you want good tone you got to fork up some $$$. but i think a girl with a acoustic & singing is grate. Gust dint be afrade to get infront of poeple & play

If your just starting out get an acoustic because an electric guitar will amplify every mistake you make and it's discouraging and will make you want to quit, plus they are good to help buildup finger strength.
