To all those who answered my previous question, I'd like to say thanks-It provided me with a very interesting perspective..I'd like to adress a couple of things that people claimed about Christians, that I personally don't believe..and that any true Christian shouldn't believe
First , I don't hate gay people. I dissaprove of the act of homosexuality, in my opinion, it is a sin just like lying cheating stealing, but I love all people..including gays-I have homosexual friends. I don't approve of their actions, but I love them as people
Second, only God has the power to judge, if a "Christian" has ever "condemned you to hell", I am sorry
Third, to those of you who who have had "Christians" who "hate" or "want to harm" you, I am sorry, Christians are called to love everyone
Finally, I do want to have the free expression of my religion in school, but I don't believe in forcing something on anyone. In my beliefs, the God I serve gave everyone the freedom of choice
What do you think?

I already notice that some of you are claiming that I am open to everyone's beliefs, and it is tempting for me to take that as a compliment in the present day, but I must confess...I personally believe that Christianity is the only right way....that's a fundamental part of my belief, but in my belief, I believe that you have the option of choosing Christianity or not. But once again, based on my belifs, I do believe that Christianity is the "right way".

Lady Morgana...you have posted on two of my last questions, and I appreciate your input...I'm new to yahoo answers, and hope it's ok for me to name you....anyways, you asked about your religious view as a witch, and I must say, that I do disagree with you. It is a fundamental part of Christianity, that Christianity is the "only" right way. Having said this, I'd like to respond to your question about "don't suffer a witch". Personally, I don't agree with whoever said that you should be "burned at the stake" or...i'm not sure exactly how it was phrased in your last answer, I do however disagree with your religious beliefs, but like I have said before, as a Christian, I believe that it is my job to present Jesus, and it is your choice wether or not you choose Him. Also, you mentioned about the heirarchy of the church....in relation to males...In my oppinion....and what I believe is supported by the Bible, is that men and women are equal as Christians in Christ.

Ever since the 1960's our society, and specifically the United States, has been very focused on a relativistic idea of morality and right and wrong. The problem with that is that some things have to be right and some have to be wrong for everyone. This is the fundamental problem that people have with Christianity is that it sets that standard. The truth is that the Bible, which is one the bestselling books and has withstood the stongest criticism of any other text in history, states that Christianity does not make the claims about what is right or wrong but God does.
If we cannot agree that there is a supreme being who speaks and the word that he has spoken has to be absolute, then there is no need to debate anything further.
I agree with what you have said, but there are many out there who will never believe and we can only pray and ask God to influence them through how we act towards them, with love and compassion. A Christian never hates a person and can divide the person from their action. People commit murder, they are not murderers. The action does not make the person, the person makes the action.

I didn't read or answer your other question - just logged on.
But since I am not christian I thought I'd answer.
First Christians are misunderstood BC they think homosexuality is a sin. Whether God is part of your life or not there has to be a line drawn where we say, "Ok I can accept my religion preaches this but I don't accept it bc I've read what science says on the matter." Science says being gay is not a choice. Mothers hormones play a big part at conception.
Second, Christians judging unfortunately is something many encounter. That fundamentalist viewpoint is getting stronger than the original Christian belief system. Sad but true. So the non-Christians are taking a step back waiting for the 1st blow.
Third, See above at #2.
And Finally, my STATE & COUNTRY gave me the freedom of choice. If a person wants to practice their religion in other places than church or home - fine. But don't bring ME into it. I don't mind if the people next to me at a restaurant are praying before their meal. I don't mind if someone has strong religious beliefs - but I want the choice NOT to be a part of it.
Hope that helps clarify how others might view this.

I did not see previous question, but this is the usual Christian position.
Short answer of why misunderstood?
Because Christsians rely on the Bible for guidance in civic matters when the Constitution is the proper document to rely on.
So, wrong tool for the job!
Imagine if people went in your Church and insisited that the Constitution should be the document relied up to decide all matters of Doctrine?
You'd be pretty upset right?
And rightly so!
So imagine the reverse of that, and it is precisely what is embodied in some of your items, and many others regularly asserted by other Christians.
No wonder people don't like it.
What you do in Church is your business, but please don't mistake it for what the public does in its civic affairs, even if you are part of the public.
If you can manage that, then you will NEVER be misunderstood again!
Edit:
I see in your follwoup to lady Morgana that you say that a fundamental tenet of Christianity is that it is the only right way.
That is wrong on many levels.
- Judge not lest ye be judged, or something liek that...
You seriously have to ask why you conider it fndamnetal, and a part of your "job" to go around teeling everyone else they are wrong, morrally, and civically, and yet you wonder why you are "misunderstood" and not greeted with welcome arms?
Methinks you are perfectly understood when you find yourself in that situation!
Maybe try a little role playing where someone chases you around for a month ad treats you in every intereactinwith pity and a fundamental belief that you are "wrong" at the very core of you being.
Heck, say it toyourself in themirror 100 times a day for a month, and see if you might start to realize why that message would not be "understood" by the listener.
Print this out entire message of mine out and take it your Church and read it out loud in front of the congragation, and then see if they all agree that calling everybody "wrong" and in need of being told about it at every opportunity is the true Christian way.
Then do the same at the next Town Council meeting where you live, and see if they respond the same way.
Let me know what you find out!

Look on either this board or the LGBT board and you will find your answer. There are all sorts of "Christians" trying to tell everyone how bad they are and how all gays, atheists (and just about anyone else that disagrees with their point of view) that they are going to hell.
They are "misunderstood" because the Christians are acting very Un-Christian.
I think that if Christ were to come to Earth today, he would reach out to the gay community because they are being treated like the lepers were at the time of Christ.
You are right on track with the point that this is considered a "sin" just as driving 56 MPH is when the posted speed limit is 55 MPH.
In all other respects a gay person can adhere to all of the 10 commandments which is the requirement to being one of "God's People" and when they fall short, being covered by redemption through grace.

Christians are not misunderstood. Christians are the ones misunderstanding it all. Even the bible. And the human universe as a whole.
Not only Christians, actually. Any of these puritane cultures, whatever you want to call them.
I could spend 949234023 years writing here about this, but since I don't have all that time to lose, I'll just leave you with a matter:
Have you realized the Bible is the most atheist book there is?
All that symbology in the genesis, renegating the body and everything else that is mundane - all that matters is the mind, the spirit, whatever you want to call it.
Now, how can that be holy? If you renegate the body - which is the origin of life - ....
and yet this is considered sacred.
Oh well.........
I hope you won't have nightmares with my answer. I don't have anything with what you believe or not - it's in your mind anyway, to me it doesn't matter at all.
My only intention here is to try to get people have a look at things with their own critical sense. THEIR OWN.
Anyways,
Peace!

I agree very much with your details. I have come across those same problems, people saying all this stuff about christians which is not true/ not what we believe in. I also agree with mum. The american country was founded on christian beliefs, and now we are being persecuted for practicing our religion, but if a muslim wants to wear their turpin in schools they can but we can't bring a bible to school or say the pledge of allegiance anymore! Its just like our language we are now being forced to have learned some kind of spanish because of the many people that don't know english in our own country. If i went to a different country like mexico i would learn to speak their language.

You are so on the money with this one. But if I may I'll add a bit to some of your statements.
First, I agree completely as all REAL Christian should!
Second, Anyone claiming to be Christian and condemning you to Hell has just committed a cardinal sin. They do NOT have the power to condemn anyone and by implying they do they have just compared themselves as equal to God!
Third, I agree completely as all Christians should.
Finally, I agree but, I would also like to have those same rights instilled upon me.
I think you are a true Christian!!!!!!!!

I think you are a rare Christian.
Also, I want you to consider this: I dont hate Christians, I disapprove of Christianity. Now, I dont really mean that, but can you see how offensive that really is?? Thats what you just said about gays...
You also said that you dont believe this (or, more accurately, that others have "claimed" and which you dont believe), and that no true Christian should believe this either. So, are you calling these people that have made these claims LIARS? Or, are you saying that you cant believe that your fellow Chrisitans act in that fashion? Because they do - all you have to do is read the posts on this site to see it.

I think you are generally an openminded, pleasant person who wishes nobody any harm. That has nothing to do with religious beliefs; I believe people can be spiritual and socially conscious without being religious.
History remembers the Crusades, the Witch Hunts and the Inquisition. There have always been people who say they are Christians who use those beliefs to harm others.
Which Christians are being misunderstood?
