I have been nursing for his whole life but since he is nursing less, my supply is getting low and I can't seem to keep up anymore. I need to get my son to drink something else (besides water - which he loves). I tried milk and he had such a change in behavior, he was crabby and completely difficult. He was so unhappy and seemed actually inconsolable. I then tried soy milk thinking he might be allergic to regular milk. But I got the same reaction with the soy milk. Talked to my pediatrician who wants me to "push" the milk. After seeing the reaction in my son, I just don't want to put him through it again. He also can't tolerate ice cream or yogurt. ANY IDEAS???

maybe he is just having a hard time adjusting to the fact that you arent breast feeding anymore?
being crabby doesnt really sound like an "allergic" reaction to milk..
my sister and myself are both lactose intollerant
by this i mean we get terrible stomach cramps and vomitting when we drink cow milk.
thats what i think of when i think of a milk "allergy"

My son had trouble with milk and soy after having been weaned from nursing. They gave him diarrhea. He had to drink rice milk. I took him to a naturopath who has since helped him with the soy allergy. Naturopaths are not covered by OHIP but some insurance plans will cover a portion. Good luck.

If you drink milk, does it bother him? My son became lactose intolerant when I was nursing him, and I had to avoid milk products also, or it would upset his stomach. Try the rice milk. Also be sure he gets enough calcium. You can buy chewable calcium pills. I did that for my son.

allementin is for children who are lactose and high protein intolerant. I have 2 grandchildren were at birth they were miserable and losing ounces daily. My daughters pediatrician prescribed liquid prilosec (only obtainable at the Kings Daughters) for 3 months and change the formula to Allementin. My grandson is now 3 yrs old and healthy, his sister is now 5 mths old off the prilosec and drinking the formula with no problems.

Here's a link for you for kids who are allergic to the protein in soy milk, and milk intolerant:

You could try buying/making some rice milk

and supplementing his calcium needs with brocolli, and orange juice which has been fortified with calcium, and look into calcium supplements for infants, such as crushing up a tablet and adding it into food.
Foods high in calcium:(scroll down for non-dariy items)

All the best.

yes, I would try rice milk...you might also want to try goat milk (you can buy it most economically powdered) but he might also have trouble with goat milk.
Honestly, if you feel he isn't eating enough table foods, if it were me, I would try a hypoallergenic formula...but it is a bit pricer.
