i was in math and student services came on the loud speaker thing and asked for Lexi (i'm the only Lexi in our grade) and said she needs to come to the office. i was freaking out. my heart was racing and i was thinking "what did i do wrong?". so i show up and they tell me to go to our assistant principal's office. he shuts the door and i am like "is everything okay?" and he mentioned that after 3 tardies you get a detention and he said that i have had a total of 6 this year. so he fills out the detention form and says to get my mom to sign it. she is already fed up with me and i am scared to tell her. how can i tell her? thanks!

I had several tardies in my high school years and could not avoid being late to science class. Some times it is too hard to get there in time.

Now that I am a teacher's aide, (and a parent)I can suggest that you sit with mom and get serious about your situation. Practice this little speech to yourself before you tell her, but ALWAYS tell her the truth.

For example, my confession would sound like this....

Mom, I have trouble getting to science class on time. My lunch is right before science and the rooms are on opposite ends of the school. I keep walking in a minute late, so the teacher sends me to the office for a tardy slip.

So mom, I am going to serve detention for being late to science class and have to find another way to get there on time, from now on.

This way I have confessed my detention time, admitted being guilty and have accepted my punishment like an adult. By telling my mother that I have to find another way to get there on time, shows maturity and responsibility. Now my mother will think that I am growing up and taking charge of my life.

I take the punishment (detention), admit my guilt, decide to correct it myself. My mom, and yours, should be proud of my (your) maturity and let you serve the detention without any additional punishment. You will be serving plenty without mom's jumping in the mess.

Remember: look her in the eye when you talk and don't stop or slow down. Keep on telling her the truth and she will respect you for your courage and maturity.

just casually mention that you have to stay after school and when she asks why just tell her, its only for tardies, its not a big deal, at the most she'll probably just make sure you get to school on time now

It's only for being tardy, not something super serious. Have your dad sign it or just explain it to your mom, unless she is really unreasonable, she will understand.

Well, I can understand. I've also never gotten one. Just be glad its not for something bad. It's only for tardys. Make sure you just dont bring it up. Start a conversation with her, and make sure you explain its only for tardys, and make sure she knows you'll never let it happen again.

If it was me i`d forge the signature, i`ve been through this i got my 1st detention in 7th grade but i had to tell my mom cause the school called her. Do nice things be EXTRA good & if it`s only for tardy`s that`s not sooo bad. (mine was for skipping)
