It won't be a Hollywood style disaster. Gradually coastal areas will flood and agriculture will be damaged. But it will be very bad. Rich countries will cope, but it will take huge amounts of money. In poor countries many people will die of starvation, but not all of them.
Most scientists say, in 20-50 years. But we need to start right now to fix it, fixing it will take even longer than that.
Really good website for more information here:

Lots of numerical scientific data proving it real here:

Proof that most scientists think it's real and mostly caused by us here:

Climate change is a term made up by the Bush administration to confuse the issue which has now become a permanent part of the vernacular. It is a consequence of Global Warming at this time in history.
Projections that are believable? The oceans have risen one degC in the last 50 years. That is the same amount of energy as 1.3 billion atomic bombs. That will be expressed as more extreme weather events and long term climate change. This year alone almost 20% of food crops in North America were destroyed by weather and the loss of significant numbers of bees.
The temperature is projected to rise 5 degC in the next 50 - 100 years. That is equivalent of one atom bomb for every man, woman and child alive today.
Do you know how most species go extinct? Habitat destruction. In this example the words habitat, environment, ecosystem and climate are synonymous.

"Preservation of the environment, promotion of sustainable development, and particular attention to climate change are matters of grave concern for the entire human family,"
Here in Canada the loss of arctic ice is causing animal populations to fall, ironically. (so far)
For example, our Arctic is severely threatened by global climate change.
How can we go back on our promise to support the announced international "ACCORD"?
It is the "best legislation" on sustainability the world ever had? (we should go even farther)
Global warming may please our northern citizens, but the polar bears are taking a huge hit!
When the glaciers melt into the seas, the water level rises, endangering Bangladesh and other low lying lands, often unable to deal with this creeping change!!!

The movies you are watching are most likely be for entertainment, but don't give much real facts. You should research and see the real effect of climate change.
Besides, the world is getting warmer and there will be lots of storms coming up. Research "global warming" if you want to learn more.

Movies often take a concept and distort it for the entertainment of the viewers. Better to get information about climate change from scientists instead of film directors.

Earth remains in an interglacial state of the Quaternary Ice Age to this day. Warming is actually a good thing as the warm periods of earth have been historically rather short (several hundred years). Another ice age will come regardless of what we do.
