in movies, whenever hte guy proposes the ring like fits perfectly, but how do the guys like know what size to get? Or usually, do the guys like propose and then the girls like return the ring for a size that fits?

I would imagine they don't always fit if the guy picks it out himself. I know that some couples go shopping for the ring together and then the guy buys it and surprises her with it later. You can get the size of a ring changed quite easily at a jewelry store.

I don't know the percentages, but I know they don't always fit. They especially don't fit if they are REALLY trying to make it a surprise. About a month before my husband proposed we were walking by a jewelry store at the mall and he THOUGHT he was being clever by saying, "hey, let's try on rings, for fun!" I just looked him in the eye and said, "it's a 7 honey."
Some men are slick enough to steal a ring from a jewelry box and get it sized. But, I imagine quite a few rings have to be sized.

well that depends. Stores usually stock a size 7, now you could if she has another ring you could take and get a size, you can take it in after and get it sized but lets be honest what girl wants to part with her ring after JUST getting engaged were all about showing it off to all the girlfriends. You can also ask her parents they probably know what her ring size is.

Guys buy the ring and the girl has to go back and have it sized , I think the jewler would even suggest that even if the guy did know the size...

Best thing to do is guess the size of the finger. The average size is 7. If it doesn't fit, just have a jeweler resize it. Not a big deal.

I think sometimes they ask them for their ring size...it kind of ruins the surprise but some people do it.
