The Novocaine should wear off in two or three hours. It is a strange feeling, isn't it? HA!

"Novocaine" is not used nowadays, but has become established as a layperson term for local anaesthetic (LA).
Normally lidocaine with adrenaline is used. This will roughly last 2-4 hours for upper teeth, and 3-6 hours for lowers.
Long-lasting LAs like bupivicaine can last longer, but are usually used for surgical treatments where there is a need for covering up post-op pain.
Don't try and rub the area to "make" it wear off faster, or you'll bruise your skin, and will regret it tomorrow.
