If Mary is dead as many of you have said, where is her grave?

The doctrine of the Assumption says that at the end of her life on earth Mary was assumed, body and soul, into heaven, just as Enoch, Elijah, and perhaps others had been before her. It’s also necessary to keep in mind what the Assumption is not. Some people think Catholics believe Mary "ascended" into heaven. That’s not correct. Christ, by his own power, ascended into heaven. Mary was assumed or taken up into heaven by God. She didn’t do it under her own power.

. Pope Pius XII, in Munificentissimus Deus (1950), defined that Mary, "after the completion of her earthly life" (note the silence regarding her death), "was assumed body and soul into the glory of heaven."

The possibility of a bodily assumption before the Second Coming is suggested by Matthew 27:52–53: "[T]he tombs also were opened, and many bodies of the saints who had fallen asleep were raised, and coming out of the tombs after his resurrection they went into the holy city and appeared to many." Did all these Old Testament saints die and have to be buried all over again? There is no record of that, but it is recorded by early Church writers that they were assumed into heaven, or at least into that temporary state of rest and happiness often called "paradise," where the righteous people from the Old Testament era waited until Christ’s resurrection (cf. Luke 16:22, 23:43; Heb. 11:1–40; 1 Pet. 4:6), after which they were brought into the eternal bliss of heaven.
Hence no grave and why there has never been any evidence written or otherwise of a grave.

Mary's body was buried in the Kidron Valley, (also called the Valley of Jehoshaphat" near Jerusalem. Mary only went through the tomb but did not stay there. She was assumed into heaven three days later. Until today, her tomb is watched over by Orthodox and Franciscan monks. We celebrate the Feast of the Assumption on August 15th.

My response if very short & brief, thanks Sentinal & phantom for the detailed info.

"And the Apostles, carrying Mary, came tot he place of the Valley of Jehoshaphat which the Lord had showed them; and they laid her in a new tomb, and closed the sepulchre."

Mary is the one whom God chose to bear His Son. If he thought she was special then why don't you? There are controversies over whether or not she is the Mother of God, whether she can intercede for us, etc. Regardless of how you feel about these things, you should at least be respectful. Is YOUR mother nothing more than a vessel that God used to bear you? How do you think Jesus feels when you call His mother a vessel? She is a very holy woman, Jesus' first and most devout follower. Please don't disrespect her! And don't think that any Christian places her equal to or above Jesus. No one does this - it is not the teaching of the Catholic Church or any other church. She is a saint and a holy person who is to be revered, which is not the same as being worshipped.

There is actually some disagreement as to where she was originally laid to rest. As Catholics, we beleive that while Mary died a natural death, her incorrupt body was taken by God directly up to heaven.

There is a tomb called Mary's Tomb, near Jerusalem, that is venerated by some Christians and by many Muslims (Muslims hold Jesus' mother in high regard, BTW). To me personally this site is suspect because it was one of the sites that was recognized mostly when the Crusaders conquered the Holy Land in the 1100's.

Others say that it is near Ephesus, where the Apostle John lived out much of his life. Ephesus was a city in Asia Minor, today's Turkey, which was the location of a major church in early Christianity - Paul wrote a canonical Letter to the Ephesians, it's in the New Testament. I tend to want to go with this one, for two reasons - first, it is mentioned in the Bible that the Apostle John, "the disciple that Jesus loved", took Mary into his home at Jesus' dying request (John 19:26-27) and she ended up living with him after Jesus died. According to tradition she lived quite a number of years after Jesus' death, and was almost like another Apostle, one of Jesus' greatest disciples in fact. The second reason is the vision of the great Christian mystic Anne Catherine Emmerich, who I believe will be canonized a saint someday. She had many visions concerning the Passion and Death of Jesus (the Mel Gibson popular movie "The Passion of Christ" features much of them) but she also had visions of Mary's birth, life, death, and bodily assumption into heaven. In her visions, the location was pinpointed to a mountain not far from Ephesus. Archeologists who investigated were stunned by the accuracy of what they found at the location in comparison to what Emmerich saw in her visions. Here's a link to a story about all of this:

It has been said that when disciples later went back and opened her tomb to take one last look, her body was gone, the tomb was filled with white lilies.

She stands in the abyss between Heaven and Earth just like the Ark of the Covenant did when the Israelites went across the Jordan into the Promised land. The Ark stayed there in the Jordan until every last one went across---she is our Mother why would she abandon us? The Lord knows that we need her and he has agreed to let her help us. She is the Queen of Heaven---Choirs of Angels bow to her---people on this site would die of fright to see the Glory the Lord has bestowed on his precious Mother. They would then say to the Mountains "cover me" just as the Scriptures say. All of the insults lately to the Lord and his Mother---I just don't know why he holds back his hand if not for his Mother.

There is no grave, Tradition has it that she was assumed bodily into Heaven after she died. But even if you don't believe that, aren't there a number of historical figures that we have no clue as to where they were burried? Yet we are confident that they are dead.

If Isaiah is dead, where is his grave? If Paul is dead, where is his grave?

If we don't know where someone had been buried, does that mean that person never died?

What? Is this somehow proving (in your mind) that Mary never died? Because people don't know where she was buried? That's a pretty weak argument.
