I'm looking at purchasing a used toyota pickup from it's owner. It has a clean title (checked by way of carfax), just over 100,000 miles, and comes with a cap. I'm going to take it to a mechanic to checkout prior to purchase to make sure everything is running alright. We have worked out a price of $2800. As far as I can tell by the research I've done, this is a good price. However, I have never bought a car before so I'm not totally confident.

I can't believe that I forgot to say that it's a 1992! Thanks for the replies!

It's a 4 cylinder, manual, x-cab.

Sounds like a good buy. Look up the blue book value on it to find the average retail value for your model.

It sounds like an OK price depending whether its 2 or 4 wheel drive. I owned a 1994 Toyota 2 wheel drive X-tra cab pickup that never cost me anything but routine scheduled maintenance. It was a 4 cylinder automatic that had no problem passing at freeway speeds towing a popup camper. One warning though, like any rear 2 wheel drive pickup you need a couple hundred pounds of weight in the bed over the rear wheels to be able to drive over icy winter roads.

If 2WD, then its a decent deal, if it checks out mechanically. If 4WD, don't dare let go of it. Those things are still worth some money, and may actually be worth more in the future (like the FJ40 Landcruisers).

Ah alright. That sounds pretty good...especially if it's a 4x4.

If your mechanic clears it fit, then it is a very good deal.
