There is a church in Baltimore that was going to buy their preacher a Bently with church funds. I want to know what you guys think about this.

- Couldnt the money used to buy someone a $100,000+ car be better used to create programs to help aid and educate under privledged children in their community?

There's good money (and many benefits) to be made from selling religion - IF you can keep a straight face.

Complete shame. With that said, I do have to point out this most definitely is the exception to the rule. My pastor drives a 15 year old Jetta and has a wife and three kids and rents a modest house. Most churches I have belonged to the pastors have lived very modestly. This phenomenon is with these new "mega churches" that are popping up all over. The way the wealth is being distributed is disturbing to say the least.

Judas was worried about the cost of the oil that Mary wiped on Jesus feet. He claimed that he thought it should be sold and given to the poor. The truth was he was a thief and was greedy and jealous of her using it on Jesus feet. The same people who worry so much about preachers salaries are the ones who don't mind the fact that their favorite rock stars and sports players make zillions of dollars a year and don't think a think about handing over big bucks to go to concerts or ball games. If I had the money I would buy my pastor a Bently or whatever he wanted and there would not be anything wrong with that. I would hope that when he drove it he would feel blessed and loved. God loves to see His children blessed. Trusting in riches is bad. Having riches and being a good steward of them is honorable.

I doubt that buying a preacher a Bentley is a good idea and the parable of the Rich Man and Lazarus comes to mind.

This is disagraceful. A preacher doesn't need a Bently. Frankly, I don't know of anyone who does. They want one. They don't need one. I can understand an unbeliever wanting the riches of this world, but not a Christian or a minister who is told to live a modest life & not boast in the riches he may possess.

So why do you think ministers should be poor in frayed cuff double knit suits?

Why do not you gripe about all the treasures, jewels, artwork, property and who knows what else that the Catholic Church owns.

If that's what they did, then that's between them and God.

What the congregation ought to be doing is giving in response to the teaching, giving to God because they value what God has taught and given to them. If they do that, then they are fulfilling the response which indicates the Holy Spirit in them. And that is between them and God.

What the Pastor does with the money after that is between the pastor and God. It's as simple as that.
