I'm curious if anyone can find fault with our new vet's suggestions. Our cat has a strong fungal infection, the vet said ringworm (or like it), but the bumps all over our cat are not circular at all. They are raised scabby patches of fur on his cheeks, chin, and toes. Also, we have been told to keep him isolated, which he has been for over a month, with a cone on his head so as not to scratch. I'm wondering if it's really necessary for our cat to still be fighting it for this long? The meds we were given are: 125 MG amoxicillin every 12 hours, plus Terramycin on his eye, ResiZOLE conditioner twice a day, with a similar shampoo. There was also a liquid mix of pills he gave us but I can't remember them. Now he also has our cat on 125 mg of Griseofulvin and I guess there's some valium in there too...(Not sure, my husband takes him in) every 12 hours. Point is, he's been isolated and on a lot of meds and still seems to get new bumps and it's been over a month.

Amoxicilian is an antibiotic. So is teramyacin (though that one is for eyes only). The Griseofulvin and Resizole are both anti-fungals used for ringworm, with the Resizole (non sticky) seeimg to be the standard 2% miconazole solution --according to what I found on the internet.

It took almost a month for the ringworm in ours to go away, I was treating with miconazole a 4% solution two or three times a day put on the spot. I got it as a generic cream for $8 from Walgreens, you can find it in the yeast infection area. The brand name is Monistat 3. Since it's a stronger percentage it may have cleaned up the ringworm faster on ours.

One thing they don't usually mention is to NOT scrub at the areas, that spreads the spores around and makes things worse. Do dabs, and work the medicine into the fur along the edges of the scab areas.

That sound about right. There are so many kids of ringworm. Mine had one that was scaley lookig. It takes forever to get rid of at least 6 weeks or so. Although not a big deal you do want to keep your cats apart. Also keep everything sanitized. I wiprd everything with diluted blach constantly. I got benedine for mine, it stains so be careful, and an over the counter cream for ring worm (human) It wirk along with what the vet gave me but I didn't get a antibiotic. He may have a uri on top of it. Be patient it will go away.
