At my sons school they have an anti chewing gum policy.

But, because my son has a issue with anxiety and chews his clothes, the Principal and his teachers oked him being allowed gum. But it is monitored closely.

So, you could talk about the benefits of gum for some special needs children who are oral and like to stick things in their mouths.

We live in New Zealand.

What fun would chewing be if it were permitted? Most of the fun for me was in trying to hide it from the teachers.
