those in heaven are more alive than any one of us, mary and the saints are included, to deny this one must deny scripture, the word of god. good luck with that on judgement day.......
nice question tebone, hopefully it sheds some light on the matter for our very confused brothers and sisters in christ.

The physical body is dead. It does not go to Heaven with you (unless we are talking about the select few mentioned in the Bible who went directly to heaven without dying, or about the Rapture, which is a complex discoussion for another time and place... anyhow, these are single specific isolated exceptions, not the general rule).
The spirit (or soul) of the person is alive and has eternal life in Heaven.
If you are referring to the soul, the are alive. If you mean the physical body, they are dead (with the exceptions mentioned above).
And for the person who mentioned the "24 saints", Protestants don't have saints. Sainthood is a Catholic concept.

When we are saved we are resurrected as the new man to a state of eternal life with God. We do not experience a "dead spell" in the middle of this eternal life.

to be absent from the body is to be present with the lord. paul said this.eccel says the body goes back to dust and the spirit goes upward if you want more scripture on this , just write. love pastor carney. the dead are with christ paul said he could depart and be with christ, but it more needful that he stayed. jesus told the thief on the cross that today you will be with me in paradise.

as far as I know, those who died are at rest and not in heaven. Those who are dead will all be raised from the dead and judged, along with the living, on judgment day, and not before. "The first will be last and the last will be first."

Other than Enoch and Elijah, the people in heaven have died and have yet to be resurrected from the dead. (Gee I would think you would have know that)
