Open office (openoffice.org) is a suite of open source programs similar to Microsoft office.
ABI word (abisource.com) is an open source text editor similar to MS word.
These are both free. I recommend ABI word for word processing and open office for other office work (spreadsheets, slide shows, etc.)
The primary caveat with these programs is that since they are open source clones of microsoft software, they are not entirely compatible with Microsoft's offerings. Files will look different when viewed with the different editors. Be careful when transporting documents made in one to the other.

Well word is a word processing program.
So you will be looking for a free word processing program that supports windows.
Try Abiword, it looks fairly simular to word -> http://www.abisource.com/
For more, type : free word processors into google, to find some simular results.
Hope this helps

Open Office is a great alternative to MS Office, in many ways it is better, and free to download.

http://www.openoffice.org/ for the Open Office suite or www.zoho.com for an entire suite of products. You need to create an ID for access but it's free.

You can download the trial of Microsoft word off their website.. but other than that, there really isn't another program too much like it.
