My cat was hit by a car after escaping a cat fight. My Mom said she didn't seem to be hurt too badly. She eats, drinks, sleeps, eliminates and walks okay... but not as good as before. My real concern is her tail, which is hanging limply at the base, where I think it's broken. Is it possible it's paralyzed? She uses to talk with us, but I'm afraid she can't now. Will she be able to regain use after a while? We are still paying off her two surgeries on the same foot after a rescue mission from a feral for her late little "brother", who died last month from a complication of health problems and possibly access to spoiled food. I don't want to lose her, too, so I hope that you might be able to give me advice. Please help me.

Pet owners have responsibilities to their pets. A broken tail means possible spinal problems. Could be a tendon strain, but a vet would have to check. Any car strike needs to be checked by a vet, you could have internal bleeding going on, head trauma, cracked teeth that will be infected fairly shortly, or any one of a number of other things. At the very least the vet should look at the tail.

Sounds like you are definitely going to need to take her to the vet. The vet may have to amputate the tail. But you should really get her checked out as the tail is connected to the spine and it should be check for damage/paralysis. Can you borrow money or have your parents get a cash advance or something? At least you will know exactly what needs to be done after the cat is examined and can then make more arrangements financially in case the cat requires surgery.

A cat moving the tail is his or her way of telling you what is on it's mind. If a cat is kind of jerking it's tail, it is likely upset about something. If it is slowly ,smoothly gliding it's tail back and forth, it is probably content and relaxed.Watch your cat and you will get to know the difference in the movements. Cats are like people or dogs, they have their own way so each can be just a bit different. Get to know yours and you will be able to communicate with each other. The way it walks and everything means something to each one.

Please take your cat to the vet if you haven't already. I had a similar issue with my cat when I was younger. He had been hit by a car and actually walked back home. Once he got home however, he walked no more. He still ate and drank, and went to the washroom.

We took him to the vet the next day and they found that his spine had been broken in 4 different spots. :( He managed to walk a bit, even with a broken spine. Cats are incredible animals...

Just please check him out. Even a broken rib or a punctured organ can lead to internal bleeding and a slow painful death.

If you're worried about vet bills (which we all know are rediculous) ask to pay in installments. When you love your pet enough, you'll do anything for them.

A broken tail is serious, and that may not be all that is wrong. Call your vet for an opinion, if he knows you and your financial siutation perhaps he'll work with you. I'm not trying to tell you what to do, but perhaps kitty shouldn't be allowed outside? Sounds like it has cost you a great deal from outside influences. Also, your vet may know of some humanitarian agencies that help with vet bills. We have some here locally that do.
Good Luck and God Bless.

If your cat was paralized at the tail, she would not be able to walk because the tail is part of the spine. If she has a fracture she probably can't move it. Take her to a vet and they will do an x-ray. A pet is part of the family take care.

Please call a vet. Even if you can't afford to take her in, you can at least get a professional opinion of what might be wrong. It sounds like a broken tail, but only a vet can say for sure. I hope everything turns out okay for her.

You really should bring your Kitty to the vet. I know the vet can get really expencive but it is the best thing for her. She could be serousliy injured or have other internal problems that you're not noticing. It you bring her into the vet they can help her best they can and it is less likely you will lose her. I hope she gets better!!!

Take her to a vet. Cats will act as normally as possible even if they have something seriously wrong with them. When they can't take the pain anymore, they will totally isolate themselves. Take her to a vet before it's too late.

I understand that you are still paying off other vet bills, but your cat needs to go to the vet. She could be in a lot of pain or she could develop an infection .
