It's good to tell your kids your mistakes, but a toddler may be to young to understand.

I don't think it would do any good with a toddler. You cannot reason with a child this young. As a teenager, sure. It helps to let them know that you have been through what they are going through (although they aren't likely to believe you).

Toddlers won't get it so it's worthless as a teaching example at that age. I think it becomes a useful teaching thing once kids are like 7 years old or older.

I think its rather silly, a toddler could care less what his parents did as a child. My husband had behavior problems but he didn't even talk to the kids about it until their late teens when they could learn from it.

I think it's really a matter of how you want your kids to perceive you. Do you want them to think you are a perfect angel that can do no wrong? Or do you want them to see you as a normal person. What kind of morals are you trying to teach the child? That would impact what you tell them about yourself I believe. Though you could use the bad things you did and the consequences as an example of why one shouldn't do it. I think it's really a matter of what you are trying to accomplish by telling them.

My parents were always honest with me about their past and I learned from it. I never did drugs or went to drunken parties because of the stories they told me. I didn't want to have to tell my kids about it so I just never did it.

Grandma and Grandpa are going to tell them anyway...

I am not positive that this would prove to be a wise decision.

No, I wouldn't. You want your children to think of you as PARENTS, not friends.
