I agree with your top three.....but I'm not sure of the order. I'm a Gordon fan, but Petty and Earndhardt were both phenomenal drivers. I would love to see how they'd stack up against one another in their prime, and in equal equipment.

I will say that I believe that Gordon MAY be the all around best driver looking at the big picture. He can dominate every type of track, from road course to super speedway. Anybody who saw the Eldora race earlier this year cannot deny Jeff's pure driving ability. Not to say that Petty and Dale aren't great....but I don't know if there as good all around as Jeff is.

i do not study about all that now. He would not characterize the recreation nicely for my section, Mark Martin, Bobby Labonte, Rusty Wallace, Dale Jarrett, Terry Labonte, Cale Yarborough, Benny Parsons, David Pearson, The Allisons, The Pettys, Fireball Roberts, Bud Moore, Junior Johnson, the overdue large Dale Earnhardt between others represented the recreation more desirable than Gordon EVER WILL. As for him being a good guy, alot of human beings have conveniently forgotten that his spouse Ingrid changed into the female who he were given stuck contained in the elevator dishonest on Brooke with. As for him triumphing each and each and every of the time, he hasn't gained considering, umm around the starting up of very last seasons chase. Please imagine somewhat harder earlier declaring that Jeff Gordon is the wonderful ever, or perhaps the category of NASCAR. thanks Edit, there is not a the finest option driving force, yet there are and were alot of serious drivers.

Petty is overrated. He raced in a time when racing was a joke; there was no competition, no restrictions, and they raced 2-3 times a week. If you are going to make an all-time great driver list, start from the modern age, 1975+. Where would I rank Jeff Gordon? Second, right behind Dale Earnhardt. Jeff Gordon needs at least two more championships to be considered number one, and it's a shame that the new points system has prevented him from achieving that. He technically should be winning his seventh championship this year.

BY THE END OF THE YEAR HE MAY WELL HAVE 5 CHAMPIONSHIPS UNDER HIS BELT !!
PETTY AND DALE HAVE 7
JEFF IS 36 YEARS OLD AND MANY YEARS TO GO BEFORE HE RETIRES

LMAO

Come on, you got to be kidding me. This question is asked over and over again. Is it that people do not want to admit Gordon is great or is it because so many people are just in denial?????

Gordon under the same point system and racing as many races as they used to might be the leader in all the statistics.... but since Gordon isn't under the same rules, the stats still show Gordon 3rd in championships and soon to be 3rd in wins....... so why cannot people accept the fact Gordon is ONE of the best and under the same rules as Petty and Sr., Gordon would possibly be the best as far as statistics go????

I've got Gordon 3rd on my list also but David Pearson is my #1 followed by Dale Sr. I have Petty 4th on my all time list, just after Gordon. I have a feeling Jeff will probably surpass Sr as my #2 but I doubt that anyone will ever get by the Silver Fox on my list.

Your picks are just right. But it is really hard to rate because they are all 3 from different time periods when racing was different. Regardless of what people agree or disagree with, each driver contributed greatly in his time and his way to make this sport what it is. Times have changed and so has the racing and the race cars and the rules. So it would be really hard to challenge your picks for the top 3 greatest drivers of all time.
