Someone suggested that I wasn't a real Christian...

Is that not the HEIGHT OF JUDGMENT?

I was a born-again spirit-filled praying, reading the Bible, loving my precious Jesus, Christian for over ten adult years....

Can you imagine that I changed my mind? and without the lure of sin? I simply began to ask the tough questions. Eventually, I realized - just as I realized as a child (hopefully) that Santa Claus really wasn't real....

The same happened with Jesus.

There's absolutely no solid reason to believe this stuff. It is all patently ridiculous, when one learns to become objective and shake off the shackles of religious brainwashing.

Please don't ever link Judaism with Christianity. The Jewish version of Judaism is nothing at all like the Christian version.

I'm not sure how long it took you to discover the nonsense in Christianity. I learned as a young adult that Christianity was not for me. Unfortunately, it took another 30 years to discover Judaism. My main regret is that I discovered Judaism too late to raise my children as Jews.

I began wondering after taking a required Bible course at a Baptist college. I learned that a group of men had chosen the books to be put into the canon for the Holy Bible. They had lots of books to choose from, written by different people. Some were repeats like Matthew, Mark, Luke, etc., same story but told by different people with their different views and opinions, so the men chose the one's they liked best. Some books, the men just didn't agree with, so they left those out. CENTURIES LATER, PEOPLE ARE LIVING THEIR LIVES BASED ON THE VIEWS AND OPINIONS OF A BUNCH OF MEN?!!? Okay, so these men were supposed to be chosen by God. There are people today claiming to be chosen by God, but I'm not going to base my whole life on their opinions. Also, when the Bible was translated into English, a lot of the true meanings were lost in the translation. Don't get me wrong. I believe in God. I'm just not going to believe what other people tell me or what someone said two thousand years ago. Not one of them has ever seen God or heard his voice. A person's spiritual walk should be very personal and between him and God. Your spirituality does not include other people - they try to butt in and include themselves, when they need to be focusing on their own spirituality instead of yours. All denominations of Christianity have different traditions and beliefs, all think they are right and others are wrong which in itself is being judgemental and self-righteous. Such as all those who will give me a thumbs down over stating MY beliefs on this subject.

Well I'm not going to say that you weren't a christian but I am going to tell you that you were not spirit filled. Someone that was spiritual filled for ten years and then come and say "it's brainwashing" is an oxy moron. Unless I'm not understanding what spirit you were filled with. Either you were never a spirit filled christian or you just outright backsled. Either way start with the truth. If you say it's brainwashing then let your stand be there. If you say that you were born again Jesus freak for 10 yrs... then simply say that you backsled.

I'm not trying to be judgemental, but trying to find the truth in your question.

If you don't believe in God then you don't believe (and that's your God given right), but don't ride the fence.

you can be a christian without being religious...i know because i am...im a born-again, spirit filled, praying, reading the bible, loving Jesus Christ with everything in me...Christian. and im here to tell you that this world has messed up your thinking...i hate religion as much as you, im sure...that doesnt mean im any less a christian... im still saved on my way to heaven, but i refuse to live by someone's guidelines other than God's...my church is the most amazing place that ive ever been...because im surrounded by people who are just as sick of religion as me... im someone who pushes the envelope and defies stereotypes for a living... i absolutely refuse to be one of those "holyier than thou" christians who sits on pews and raises my hand at all the right times and says hallelujah when everyone else does, and plays church...because thats not what its about... its all about me and my relationship with God himself, and no one and i mean no one is getting in the way of me getting as much of God as i possibly can...i wont be brainwashed by people who have no idea what a relationship with God really is...

You likely did not have a relationship with God, but a religious experience without knowing God Himself. You apparently went through the motions, got caught up in the emotions and enjoyed the religious commotion. You are an example of seed that fell on the hard ground - sprouts up and eventually dies. That is not judgment, but observation based on Biblical truth.

I ask the tough questions, too. But, God is faithful to answer them for me. This has been so for over 30 years of my life.

Perhaps you were subject to some level of 'brainwashing'. You may have been swept up in someone's convincing words or emotional hype. But, for whatever reason, you never knew the reality of Jesus, Whom you claim you once loved. You may have loved the idea of Jesus, but not Him.

"Someone suggested that I wasn't a real Christian..."

hear is what The Bible has to say about this:

"But ye believe not, because ye are not of my sheep, as I said unto you. My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me: And I give unto them eternal life; and they shall never perish, neither shall any man pluck them out of my hand." John 10:26-28

If you are saved you are saved even if you say you are not!

However if you are saved it is hard to say you are not saved and that your are more happy without God. So my guess is that you where not saved in the first place. But, that is up to you and God to work out.

Even after a year on R&S I'm finding it difficult to believe the flak you're getting from Christians here. It is all transparently self-serving nonsense, so obvious that a dim-witted child should be able to see through it. But grown people can con themselves into believing anything that suits them.

Satan may have thought - d**n, I'm going to lose this one. Now he's got you back, and so perhaps he's laying on the inducements to stay in unbelief. If you start taking an interest in Christ again, you may find all sorts of problems start happening for you.

It's that good because you are free and can use the intellect you were born with without hindrance.
You have no more guilt trips.
