Okay, if you pray and they are healed, it is a miracle. If you pray and they die, it is God’s will. So, why pray at all if your prayer is not going to have any effect on the outcome? If God is going to perform a miracle, he is going to perform a miracle. If he is going to let them die, he is going to let them die. Or, do you think God may be planning to let someone die, but since someone made a kind prayer, he decides to perform a miracle?

I am a Christian, and I believe every word the Bible says. That being said, I have wondered also what the purpose of prayer is. Like you said, God knows everything, so will our prayers change anything? I don't know. I don't understand how God's mind works! But I do know that God answers prayer. Many times I've prayed and gotten what I prayed for. Sometimes I pray, and the answer is no. But God will always answer.

I think that god knows when someone is supposed to die and someone praying isn't going to change that. It might give the person who is going to die strength, but if god decides someone is going to die they are. Prayers that are unanwered may be answered in the future, or whatever you were praying for just wasn't supposed to happen. I believe that everything happens for a reason.

what we pray for is not always best for us. Our relationship with God can be compared as a father-child relationship. The child sees this box of colourful pills that look like candy and asks for them. Certainly the father is not going to let the child have that, but the child does not understand that its harmful.
sometimes things look good to us, but God knows that they are not and we in our limited understanding dont get that.
That does not mean that prayer is useless. it just means that God knows better whats good for us than we do.

Your best bet is to get the person to pray for himself. Then, he can reap the benefit of the placebo effect at the very least.

If you're Catholic, revise these instructions to include the phrase "intercession from a saint" where appropriate.

See to you, you see God as a cosmic bell hop, just waiting for someone to ring his bell so he can come running and solve the problem. It does not work that way. Believe it or not, God wants to know you, to hear your concerns you hopes, your dreams, your fears, just as any father would want to listen to his children. Do you talk to those you love? Then if so you should not find this strange.
