trueblue3167, thanks for the information. Why is it safe for police to use on people, but not safe for parents to use on children? What is the difference?

Some of you seem to be confused by my question. Allow me to clear a few things up: 1) I do not have any children. 2) I do not promote child abuse. 3) I am not looking for an excuse to use tasers on children.

I am wanting to stir up discussion about the use of police tasers. Those who defend the police officers claim these tools are harmless, yet when used on a child it suddenly becomes abuse. Perhaps some of us should rethink about this whole taser thing.

You can't use a taser on your children for the same reasons you can't use deadly force, batons, OC spray, or a police dog on your children. They are all law enforcement tools, not crutches for people that can't properly parent their children.

Anyone who answered on here about how tasers can cause death, you are wrong. A taser has never caused a death. It does not stop the heart, it can, however, after repeated usage cause excited delirium. It can also cause the recipient of the taser to have difficulty breathing.

Due to the high voltage, but low amperage, they are safe. No, you cannot use it on your children.

Edit: It is a less-lethal tool designed for law enforcement. In the civilian market, it is designed for self-defense. The taser is not designed to be a tool of punishment. In fact, our departmental policy specifically forbids us from using a taser on any juvenile unless exigent circumstances are present, or the juvenile is an immediate threat to themselves or others.

Also, I read that news story posted, it does not say he went into cardiac arrest as a result of the taser deployment. It also doesn't say how long after being tased did his medical condition manifest itself. http://www.taser.com/research/Pages/default.aspx

A taser is not a tool that was designed to be used in lieu of deadly force.

Maybe it is best that we don't have children as you make a good point!!! People complain that kids are not disciplined. You are not allowed to hit your children now - just a time out? What, in their room with all their toys? Oh, poor things!

They are safe, but you cannot use them on your children. This is called child abuse. You should not need to taze your child.

Tasers are considered as "less lethal", not safe.

Absolutely. And when you see them in the throes of a convulsion, you can be sure that they probably deserved it.
Then when Children's Protective Services comes to investigate, just use it on them, too.
