To many, God's name is simply "God.” To Muslims his name is "Allah," which is simply the Arabic word for "God." Some will call God "Elohim." Some Christians call Him "Jehovah" or "Yahweh or some Christians prefer to use "The Father.”
But, while reading the Bible it states in Exodus 34:14 For thou shalt worship no other god: for the LORD, whose name is Jealous, is a jealous God:"
That verse really threw me off a bit.
Just curious as how to properly address the name (God). I guess it depends on your religion? Yes?

Good answers. The Bible can be confusing (as is religion). I'm not trying to convert anyone (lol) it's just that I love the study of all religions and all religious point of views. I was raised in the Penecostal christian faith and while I respect the faith and all faiths, I choose as an adult, not to be defined by any religion. I think spirituality is much more important. I believe there is only one God. So, if there's only one all-knowing God, why was it necessary for God to send Jesus as a Savior? Why can't God "Himself" be the Savior? This is only for critical thinking and not meant to provoke. Thanks for all answers.

It depends on your religion and your personal walk. You can be as formal or informal as you like. He won't care, as long as you are talking to him.

God has loads of different names. My (Jewish) translation reads for that verse "...the Lord, whose name is Impassioned, is an impassioned God". God told Moses, when asked for a name, "Eyeh Asher Eyeh", I will be what I will be/I am that I am/I am becoming what I am/I will be what I am etc. I'm not sure why you're particularly bothered about this one verse, this one name. It's all just an attempt to understand what on earth the divine is - and trying not to fall into that deep anthropomorphic pit that talks about someone who sounds like an old man on a cloud. It's the very abstraction of the idea of God that is being expressed in all these different names. And you're absolutely right about the Jehovah stuff. EDIT: Yes, translation does prove a huge problem. I can understand why you feel the word 'jealous' and all it summons up seems a bad name for the divine. Unless one really knows Hebrew (and I don't), it's hard to get the nuance. It clearly is NOT a straight equivalence with 'jealous', else the JPS couldn't provide 'impassioned' as an accurate translation.

First, yes he did say he is a jealous God (title)
He is the only God over all things. (Including Jesus)
Yes, he said his name is Jehovah....with different languages world wide it will translate, but the meaning is the same."He causes to become"
For a proof, try this one.
Look at the names of the Prophets. May are derived from the Holy name "Jehovah". They don't fit so well with anything else.
Jesus told his disciples to pray to Jehovah through his name, and it works fine for me........

Well i think God is the proper way to address Him. God is a jealous God. Not a bad Jealous God. But he loves us so much that he jealous if i worship something else.

He states that he is a jealous God because he only deserves our worship not false Gods. Example when you receive your check is many names on it or just one name? God has one name Jehovah

His real name is Yahweh but we actually aren't supposed to address him by name. That is why Christians just call him God or Lord..

He says His name is Yahweh, but certain MEN don't want us to pronounce His name. If we were not to say it, He wouldn't have shared it.
Everything else is a title, not a name. Those who call upon the NAME of YAHWEH will be saved...not those who call upon one of the many titles.
All other gods are false, so their names don't mean anything...nor do they matter.
