You my friend have the same problem i do. I am planning to purchase a New Lexus IS250 in about two months. My other pick was also the c300. The Lexus have more standard features like leather, power seats, sunroof, keyless ignition, etc. over the c300. If you add those same features to a C300 it would cost roughly $5,000 more than a Lexus. For the past 10 years the mercedes benz c class has poor reliability issues/problems(mostly electrical). More $ doesn't mean better quality. The bottom line is that the Lexus cost less, maintance cost is also cheaper, bigger in size, more standard features, reliability is REALLY good compared to mercedes benz. I am planning to purchase a 08 Lexus IS250 when it comes out in a few months. No point in buying a 07 when this years is almost over.

In this case, I would definitely choose the Lexus. From what I have read, it has more power, and in my opinion it looks nicer. They would both be about equal when it comes to options and they are both nice high quality cars. Also, the IS250 has an AWD version, which I would definitely get if you live in an area where it snows a lot.
Another factor is, if you are talking about 2008's, the C230 is no longer available, I believe the last year was 2007. I also like Toyota's quality better, they are extremely durable and reliable vehicles.
But I also have never driven either, so I would definitely test drive both, and see which one was more comfortable, offered a smoother ride, and which had a better layout of interior buttons and controls. I am guessing that the Lexus would win in all categories.
Another suggestion is to check out the BMW 335i and 335xi sedan and coupe. This is a magnificent vehicle. It has a twin turbo 6 cylinder engine that pushes out 300hp to either the rear wheels or all 4 wheels depending on if you opt for the AWD version. This is one of the smoothest riding cars at any speed, and power is available all the time with absolutely no delay, which is not common on most turbo engines. The interior of this car is immaculate. Car and Driver calls this car the best ever made, and the engine has won many awards as well. The only bad thing is the dreaded BMW I-drive, but apparently once you get used to it, its not that bad. At only a couple thousand dollars more than the Lexus, it's definitely worth a look.
Good Luck!

You want to look like a expensive copycat Rolex, get a Lexsucks. they are nothing but a bland, Benz wannabe. A gold trimmed Toyota Avalon, Rav4, Camry. A Rich Man Econo Box Toyota. Now, you could get an Audi, BMW or Benz. Any Japanese car are target it to those looks. They are so close in looks that you can not distinguish from one to the other. I caught myself may times confusing a Lexsucks with a Benz or a Infiniti with a BMW. Sorry for that but that is the sad true. I like the Audi different approach. At least still looking Euro and does not look like BMW or a Benz neither. I had an Audi 5000s before back in 1985 it was a great car! My fiance drives a VW Bug with an Audi 5 cyl 2.5L engine with the Tiptronic from Porsche. That little car is impressive ! For what it is. That tells me the Audi is coming in a long way. Craftsmanship is really good. Anyway, take good care of whatever you choose and you will have tons of fun with it. Good luck on your choice ! Tschuess!!!!!!!!!!

The Benz is zippy and luxurious, but keep in mind of the maintenance and the cost of parts for repair. The Lexus is more economical if you're just looking for a intro into luxury cars. If you're going to keep it for long term, I would suggest the Lexus. Esp if you're a commuter, looking for a gas saver because the ES300 series you can still use regualr unleaded, or if your one of those drivers who has a heavy foot with mileage.

My source I have both.

The Benz was designed to run on the auto-bond at speeds in excess of 120 M.P.H. with no problems and minimum noise. the Lexus would have a hard time being quiet at 90. I have seen wrecks the Benz was in at speeds of over 100 and the driver walked away without a scratch. Try that in a Lexus.

I am a Mercedes guy...
Sorry, but nothing to compare between a German and a Lexus when you are talking about Automotive industry...

There is far to many differences... in terms of comfort, technology, ergonomic, you will see, if you get the "drive test", the new C230 offers a lot of "extras" that you wont find on any other car of its type... (of course not in Lexus, the Toyota gallery car)...

Get the Benz. You won't regret it.... way more prestigius than a stupid glorified Toyota.

Lexus stinks. It's just a Toyota and everyone knows it. Why do people think they are cool?

Buy German, always. I drive an Audi A3 and it was the best thing I ever got.

Do you want comfort and luxury? get the benz. If you want a small cramped interior and sportiness get the lexus. If you want a mix, get a G35 2005 or newer.

The Lexus is no match for the German Merc.

The Lexus is dull and boring to drive, it's basically a Toyota with a fancy badge.

Merc anyday mate.

It depends, if it is the redesigned Mercedes, go for it. It has amazing styling and build quality is top notch. The Only problem with it is that the engine is a carryover from the last one which is extremely underpowered. The bad thing about the IS is that the body is shared with the Toyota Corolla, the Corolla is half the price. If it was between the two, go for the Mercedes, in my opinion, neither, go for the BMW 3-Series, its faster than both, its more stylish, and has better build quality then both.
