YOU are the reason i have dictionary.com saved in my "favorites"...LOL.
superstition: a belief or notion, not based on reason or knowledge, in or of the ominous significance of a particular thing, circumstance, occurrence, proceeding, or the like.
faith:belief that is not based on proof
i see where you are going with this...to me, faith is the belief in things unseen; however, i am superstitious about anything 13...OR, do i have *faith* that the number 13 actually has an impact???
add: Thank ya! :o)--happy friday!

Wow. I think St. Augustine wrote a dissertation on this subject. In a nutshell, superstitions come from knowing just a little something and not everything. In order to have faith, one would have had to have experienced certain things in life that are not common to all. Faith is not one thing. It is an accumulation of smaller truths that must be experienced. A farmer who has lived a peasant life in China, would never be able to appreciate the psychedelic nature of The Doors.

Faith in God is not a leap in the dark. If you aren't certain that Christ is your savior, you shouldn't pretend you do.
If you're certain that Christ is the living God, He must have called you and made you aware of his knowledge of you and everything about you.
Not everyone will believe in Christ.
Not all will come to know him.
He decides, not you. But you can seek him if you're so inclined and if you honestly seek him (desiring to know if all you have heard of Christ his savior is true) I have no doubt, you will find him.
Though you laugh and scorn him, he will still forgive you.
Just ask Paul the apostle.
He has sent us his Holy Spirit as evidence and as a guarantee. There is no superstition involved in this, only pure confidence.
Though there are some who play church and love the social aspect, some are actually born again into the Kingdom of God, (a type of parallel universe)
oooooooooo, spooky!

I understand that superstition is belief or practice resulting from ignorance. It is fear of the unknown. It can be trust in magic or change, but not necessarily, and it can be also a false conception of causation.
I used to link this word only to an irrational abject attitude of mind toward nature resulting from superstition, and then I extended it toward supernatural overall, and even God.
I believe that superstition comes from God, but not all kind of it. Free will plays a role here, so choice is within this issue.
I believe there is more supernatural about God than there is natural. It is actually pretty bold to give glory to God in this world. But it is possible when we let God's supernatural powers to change our lives, our thought lines, and our own control within our own understanding.

They both come from not being able to explain things in life, and using something else, and include the performance of certain rituals to reach a goal. The only difference
Faith is a belief that mainly deals with code of ethics or morals for a better afterlife, or being a better person
Superstition is just like a faith, but instead just tells not to do stuff for fear of misfortune within OR out of life
...however there really is no good evidence to convince anyone for either
Good question

Superstitions are usually beliefs that often arise when an event occurs for which there is no understanding of the process behind it.
Personally, I put the notions of superstition and "by faith" into the same category.

superstition are things not supported by the word of our holy lord or his miracles.
for example:
moses parting the red sea is obviously a fable or a gross exxageration.
however the flying spaghetti monster holding us down to the earth with his noodly appendages is a VERY real thing and is purely based on fact and faith as it is written in holy gospel of the flying spagetti monster.

If a superstition is believing in something without proof, then is believing in the Big Bang theory also a superstition? As of yet science can not prove where the material came from necessary for the explosion.

Fear of death, fear of the unknown.
I don't differentiate, anything that is to believed by faith along is more than likely a superstition.
