it bothers me alot that my aunts work their butt off at laundry-mats, and at factories getting paid very little, and their pastor has a hummer, a lexus, and a bmw...and he bought his daughter a lexus! and they live in a mansion!! and his wife has a lot of jewlery and fur coats....so instead of using that money for the benefit of the church and the people, why do they used it for themselves???

Who gave the pastor the hummer?

I find that wonderfully symbolic of the whole situation.

Mely, your question has not offended me, indeed I share similar concerns.

However, your presentation is one-sided. From a different point of view, this is what I see.

1) The pastor does have a job........"pastoring"
2) Where would your aunts work if the pastor had a simpler
lifestyle? Their jobs are not on his shoulders.
3) No pastor 'runs' the church single handedly, he is accountable to the church members. It is up to them to step forward, speak out and correct the situation.
4) The pastor's salary is set by the congregation, there are appointed treasurers to see that he doesn't dip into the collection plate. A wealthy church could support a salary that allows him to live lavishly, a poor one could not.

I'm not offended...I find this kind of behavior disgusting too. Heck, the fur coat thing did it for me...the rest is just icing on the cake of disgusting behavior for a pastor.

My only consolation (and perhaps it will offer some consolation to you) is the assurance of Jesus that those who choose to accept their rewards on earth will NOT receive rewards in heaven. If the pastor and your aunts end up in heaven together, he'll be the one doing their laundry while they live in the palace!

To briefly explain my perspective, my dad serves as a pastor...and he has never in 20+ years accepted a single financial or other reward for doing so. We had a nice house and decent cars (my dad let me drive his Ford pickup until I could afford to buy my own car)...I even had horses. But my dad paid for all of our needs by working a regular job (college professor)...and he used part of his salary (and the gifts of others in the church) to pay the expenses of the church.

I don't object to pastors being supported by their church...but when that support extends beyond the needs of him and his family, it makes me quite ill. Just think of the number of people this pastor could help if he limited his own expenditures to things that actually serve a purpose...I believe he'll answer to God for all the resources he wasted on unnecessary extravagances...eventually, he will get to see exactly how many people he harmed by putting his wants ahead of theirs!

Sheep-fleecers could get into a lot of trouble with God:

Ezekiel 34:8-10
As surely as I live, says the Lord God, because for lack of a shepherd my sheep are ravaged by all the wild beasts and have become their prey, because my shepherds have not taken thought for my sheep, but have cared only for themselves, and not for the sheep, therefore you shepherds, hear the word of the Lord. The Lord God says: I am against the shepherds and shall demand of them an account of my sheep .. I shall rescue my sheep from their mouths, and they will feed on them no more.

because they are humans living the american dream.

FSM bless them for it.

they are obviously doing something right, whereas your aunts are obviously doing something wrong.

Are these factories by any chance sweat shops?

EDIT: what is wrong with you people?

I don't see a damn thing wrong with what this PASTOR (not priest) is doing here. He is spending his time providing a service to his community, he deserves to recieve compensation for that service. If you believe he recieves too much compensation for that service then I suggest you take your business elsewhere.

He might not be offering a service that I would care to use nor believe in, however that doesn't mean others out there wouldn't benefit from his expertise in providing it.

I agree 100 percent, that is one of many reasons why I don't go to Church any more.

Churches are nothing but businesses these days.

The product they are selling is religion.

Most of the pastors are in it for the money.

Most have sold out for faith based initiatives, and have told their congregation to vote for Bush. Even though Bush cares nothing about them, unless they are at a certain income bracket.

Too bad religions give God a bad name.. The churches I have attended ..The ministers had to have a regular job..and got next to nothing from the Church. Most I have known work their regular jobs..and come home not to sit and watch TV. but run to the hospital, or jail or wherever.. to minister to their flock. I have known them to leave Christmas dinner to run and help a member of their flock..Here is my three loud cheers for good Godly ministers.. YEAH YEAH AMEN!

please do not let it blind you from christ Jesus because there were shepards in OT that did the same. If they are infact benefiting themselves that will be thier reward when christ comes to rule. Also if riches are what they seek to have and not to obey Jesus ( the gosple) they may be the ones included saying "we have done many wonderful works in your name". (matt.7:21-23) perhaps she may need to go to them about her need of help or continue to find a church that will.
