any diagnosis of Bipolar is a PERMANENT Disqualifier with absolutely no chance of a waiver.Suicide attempt or documented thoughts of suicide are the same.. PDQ, no waivers authorized.
current med use is a DQ. you must be off them with doctor approval for 12 months, and have no regression before a waiver will be considered.

The short answer is "No." You cannot join the military while taking any medication. You should talk to your recruiter once you are off of the medication. Make sure you have all medical documentation with you when you visit them so they can forward it to MEPS for review. This will save the time of many people who don't have a lot of free time. If you don't have the documents they are going to make you go get them, so just gather the information first. The recruiter isn't likely to be willing to get it all together for you. The time spent getting your paperwork ready for a contract that might not even be able to join will be better used on someone who is already fully qualified. Yes, I used to be a recruiter.

Nope, they wont let you join. My stepfather was diagnosed bi-polar while in the military and he was discharged. You may still want to check with a recruiter cause they could have changed the rules

I was suffering depression and on medications when I enlisted. My recruiter told me I would be disqualified if they (the military) found out. All we did was not mark it on the medical questionaire and when asked we denied it. Is it wrong? YES. But the military is so desperate for people they will look the other way.
