you can look at thousands of rental properties in just about any place in the world, and it's normally MUCH cheaper than trying to book a hotel somewhere- and with a lot more character and much-desired privacy for honeymooners!
congrats and good luck!

I think it depends on the time of year you're having your wedding/honeymoon.
My fiance and I are getting married in June, we're planning to go to Montreal for our honeymoon.
If you're getting married in the fall or winter I'd say Mexico or hawaii. I've even heard that Puerto Rico is gorgeous. Or St. Maarten.
I also like the idea of a cruise. My ideal honeymoon would have been a cruise to Paris, Italy, and Spain - but that's one of those things that costs an arm and a leg.
Another idea would be to try to see who's renting out a timeshare in a place you'd like to vacation. My family has a timeshare thats paid for in Maine. Just another idea.

I'm getting married next week. We are going to Riviera Maya in Mexico for a week. We are staying in one of the nicer hotels and it is all inclusive. It cost just under $3,000. If that is too much, just go for 4 or 5 days instead of the full week and just don't stay in a higher end hotel. You can also eliminate all inclusive and then you have a little more control on how much you spend of food and drinks. Mexico is beautiful. I have 2 other friends going this year for their honeymoons as well.

I agree with the fisrt poster. Argentina es SOOOO cheap, the dollar is 3 times its value there. The food is fantastic, the best beef in the world. Also, the nightlife is amazing and it's very pretty and safe. The season's there are oposite as here, so if you are having a winter wedding, you can go down there and it will be summer time. Mar del Plata is a beautiful coastal city, great beaches, great restaurants, lovely architectuure, faboulous restaurants. Buenos Aires is one of the biggest cities in the world, at 20 million people. It's a lot of fun, is clean and there is so much to do. The restaurants are world class, shopping is great because everything is so cheap and stores are open until very late at night and partyng goes until dusk. Airline tickets are expensive though (about $780 high season) but sometimes you can get lucky and get them for less. American Airlines has great packages with hotel. One recommendation, do no go cheap with hotels there, their standards are different and rooms could be very dated. The downpart is that people are conceited and sometime rude, but that's just the way they are there.
Another unexpensive and great option is Spain. The beaches are fantastic and it's just so much fun. The food is marvelous, the people are fantastic, partying starts at midnight. The way of living there is so different, people get off work at 10 pm. and take 3 hours breaks in the middle of the day and they don't go to work until like 11 a.m. It's awesome. Sometimes you can get real cheap tickets to go to Europe (around $600 and less). The architecture is amazing. I love Spain, it's so relaxe, fun and clean and have no complaints whatsoever when I went there. Now with the Euro is a bit more expensive, but never expensive in comparison to England or Germany where everything is so expensive.
Dominican Republic. Awesome beaches, awesme food, awesome people. Great hotels at great prices. Fancy restautants and shops. Party like no other for pennies on the dollar. Plane tickets are about $450, 5 star hotels are around $100 a night and you can really stretch the dollar real good there. Summer time is year around so no need to worry about seasons.
I hope I helped. Good luck

Hey Charlie. I just came from my vacations in Can Cun. It's close to the US, tropical ambiance, english speakers all over the place, and incredible settings whether you're looking for tranquility (sometimes I felt like inside the corona TV ad) or nightlife (Coco Bongo is one of the hottest night clubs in entire Latin America!). I'd recomend Tucancun Barcelo Hotel if looking for an all inclusive hotel, beautiful infrastructure and a very good value. Good luck!

Go all inclusive!
My sister got married in Jamaica. For my three day stay at the all inclusive, couples only resort was only $650 including airfare.
I literally only spent about $20 on the island for souvenirs.
Below is the link to where we stayed and two good discount travel sites. Hope this helps.
Good luck and congrats!

An all inclusive resort. There are some nice ones in mexico. All the food and drinks are included so you don't pay for anything once you are there. The Crowne Plaza in Cabo is really amazing. I have been their before. Or there are the the Dreams Resorts and Sandles Resorts. They have locations all over the world.

What time of the year are you getting married?
If you go somewhere off season, it will generally be a lot cheaper.
You can get good deals going to the Caribbean or Mexico. Also, there are a lot of decently priced cruises, which are nice because they include a lot.

Any type of cruise will save you money and still allow for you to leave the US.
My husband and I went to Key West and Miami (still US) and spent under $2,000 for flight, car and hotel. It was absolutely beautiful and we didn't worry about having to get passports before the wedding.
