I have a laptop with a 100 GB hdd (shows 90ish) and i am running XP Pro right now. i am wanting cut that partition (xp pro, NTFS, 90ish GB) into two parts, one xp and one vista. i have read around and i know that vista says that it needs at least a 20 GB hdd with 15 GB free.. but i was wondering what is the smallest possible size i can make the vista partition and have it still install and run smoothly (as smoothly as vista can)...can i go with like 16? i want to keep it super small cuz i do a lot of video editing on this laptop. thanks in advance

Do not listen to that last comment, Vista does not run slow if you have enough ran to meet its requirements. It is also better than XP in every way pretty much with a few bugs here and there. I just installed it on my work computer and I think it was 9GB for Premium. I think you can get away with 10GB they just recommend such a large petition because of the system restore. Just tkae an image of your PC and disable that.

Terry, you are able to desire to partition your C force into 2 partitions - with Vista engaged on C force (this may well be the case after partitioning), and then load XP onto the recent force you create. I even have homestead windows 7 no longer Vista, so i'm no longer particular the place the partitioning gadget is on Vista seem on top of issues panel - Admin equipment - this is the place bobbing up a partition is is Win 7 solid luck

I'm not an expert but my advice would be to not install Vista. I've got Vista and to be honest, I'd rather my computer was infected with any number of viruses.

It is extremely resource intensive and in itself utilises the best part of 1Gb of RAM. Even though it's been around for several months now it's still incompatible with a lot of external hardware (printers, cameras etc).

If you do install it you should have a state of the art computer, 4+GHz, 2GB+ RAM and be prepared for manual installation of all your drivers where they exist.

On the plus side - it looks nice, Windows Mail is better than Outlook or Express and... well, that's about it.

Suggestion - visit some of the discussion forums and see what other users and professional reviewers are saying about Vista.

Its your wish between 15 and 20 depends more on the version of vista ur using eg if u have home basic then 15gb its more than enough, home premium 15gb business 15gb and ultimate 18 gb though ultimate will run fine with 15 gb.

Just my opinion, but because Vista takes up SOOOO much ram, I would not put it on your computer! I have had it 2 times on mine, and I have plenty of ram..but the computer runs so much slower! And really.. Vista does not have anything on it that is really needed. A bunch of gadgets..
