sounds like the body is reacting to it. if it is also warm, reddened and painful then it is definitely infected...
get to the doc and don't put any more thread under your skin.

if you are talking about having had disolving stitches, where the inside layer of stitches are never removed and are made of material that is supposed to dissolve, you will still feel scar tissue where the stitches used to be. if its not painful and not increasing in size, its probably not infected. But to be on the safe side, call the doctor and describe your symptoms to see if you should go back in to have it looked at.

the doctor is the one to ask. Usually infections will be red and hot and more often than not, not rock hard.
