The only thing I can add to bdancers answer is how old are these negatives?
If they are near the 7-year drop off point you might be better served to simply let them drop off on their own rather then paying them.

Credit repair companies are a rip off. They can never do what you can do on your own. The credit reporting agencies (CRAs) have seen so many form letters from these repair agencies that they now profile the mail comming in and if the disputes fits the profile that dispute will be treated differently than a bonafide consumer dispute.
I firmly believe that you need to do this yourself. The first reason is after the process you will be less likely to screw up your credit ever again after going through the process. The second reason is that your disputes will be far more effective than any dispute generated by a repair company. Third, you can accomplish results in months what will take a repiar company a year. Fourth, by doing it yourself, the cost will be for postage and a copy of each report.
No matter which way you go either DIY or you hire a company.......DO NOT ORDER FREE REPORTS. Free reports will screw up your disputing. If you dispute after ordering free reports the CRAs will have 45 days to verify your dispute. If you pay for your reports they only have 30 days to verify. Also you need to order your reports hard copy via mail from each CRA individually. Do not order a Tri-merge report and try to repair your credit from a Tr-merge report.
If you want to DIY....then go to www.creditboards.com. This is a free consumer base resource. It is a message board with many people like yourself who are in the same position as you share how they have gotten out of their problems. There is no cost, it's totally grassroots and worth the time you put into it.

If all those negatives are legitimate, there is no way to get them removed. You are wasting your money paying those repair companies.
The only way to improve you score is to clean up those negatives. Start with the newest one and work back one at a time to the oldest. Negotiate settlements. You can probably settle for 50% to 75%. Lump sum payments get the best deals. Payment plans have to be short term. Get any settlement agreement in writing and don't give them access to your bank account. You can ask the item be removed from your credit report as part of the negotiation. Some will and some won't agree. In any case paid negatives are much better than unpaid ones.
If you have current credit cards, pay the balances down below 30% of your limit -- paying in full is even better.
You need a minimum of 2 years consistent, on time payment history to start improving your score. You may have trashed your credit overnight, but you can't fix it overnight.

1. I think they use Nair. They don't have to shave as often. 2. I can't think of an answer for this. 3. I hope they would work on me, since I'm opened up with blood everywhere! 4. Very good question. I've never read the label, just taken one! 5. I would say no, they don't "swear" on the bible, not the way we do anyway! 6. I think that's the proper thing to do, I mean they asked for it, right? 7. Gravity, I'm thinking? Unless the wind blows, then it goes sideway, so where does it land? 8. Hey, I've known some beautiful men! 9. Two heads are better than one, and guys should be able to answer this one! 10. Hmmm, not sure. 11. Proctober 12. Pretty men don't have beards, do they?

Wait 7 years. And do not get any more "repo, judgement, collections and deliquents" during that time. After 7 years, they disappear.

Well I'm in the process of fixing my credit up. I have not used a company to help me with my credit accounts. What I suggest is that you get your credit report. Lay out all of your accounts. Do a budget and see what you can pay monthly. Start off with your lowest balance first. Then just start knocking them out. For me in 2007 i have paid out 3 credit accounts that totaled to around $2,500. I just set up a plan and went thru with it. Some sacrifice will come while your trying to clean up your credit. Just come up with a plan and execute it. There may be companies out there that can help you but I never tried because I feel like "Why would I pay somebody to help me clean up my credit when I can do it myself?" I hope you can find a way to take care of it. Take care......

pay off your debts, and wait. it takes time to improve your score if you've messed it up. get your report & start contacting your debtors and make arrangements to pay & dont screw up. then start small dont overspend) & stay on top of your payments. Your score will improve but only if you continue to show you are CREDIT WORTHY. DO NOT use debt payment or consolidation companys they look badly on your report. you may be broke for a while but it will feel good when they're paid off and your score will thank you
