Only those in school in the early 70's and early 80's need reply. I know I was told there was an ice age coming. I know there were teachers that believed this pretty whole heartedly and wanted me to believe it. Chicago area schools. I am sure those same teachers today will shrug that off and make claims about Global warming instead.

When do these people get held accountable for all the false positions they tried to indoctrinate our children (and me back then) with.

Do they just get top keep changing their stories and we say okay.. nod.. and PAY UP?

Yikes.

you gotta learn a little more. i dont buy into most of this hype too, but there is **** happening. why do you need studies to tell you that?

it will lead to another iceage, but that is the normal cycle to earth goes thru. we are just speeding it up.

Sorry to burst your bubble, I was at school in the 70's and 80's and studied c,limatology in the 80's - there was no global cooling scare.

What there was amounted to nothing more than a handful of periodicals (primarily National Geographic, New Scientist and Newsweek) running one-off, part-page articles. That's it.

The articles weren't based on science, weren't written by scientists, had no scientific backing. It was simply some journalists taking the work of some scientists* and distorting it to make for good editorial.

Can you find any scientific evidence that there was a global cooling scare, any white papers, reports etc?

* Some scientists were studying the effects of 'global dimming' and the role of Milankovitch Cycles, both lead to global cooling. The scientists accurately predicted that in time or given the right circumstances there would be global cooling. What the scientists said and what made it into the media were two very different things.

I was in college in the 70's, and depletion of the ozone layer was a little known secret in Canada.

I knew, but when I talked to friends and family about things like global warming they were not convinced.

I had a professor concerned about the future, but most of society was oblivious of the issues then.

Those who knew doubted that all the evidence was in.

No I do not remember expert agreement on environmental issues.

In fact, as I recall it, I only had one prof who was worried, and he felt his peers were not listening to his concerns!

I know I was NOT told there was an ice age coming.

Our concern was primarily the growth of cancers and environmental health risks at my Alma Mater, the University of Windsor, Ontario.

Time has not diminished those concerns. Greedy businss is polluting our only planet dangerously world wide!

The sun provides the heat that is blamed for Global Warming. You get an increase in temperature on Earth by one of two ways:
1) The atmosphere is changed by the puny efforts of man..

or...

2) The sun is going through its natural cycle of higher and lower output, a cycle, I might add, that has been going on for millions of years.

PS By the way Mr. Wounded Quack, we've been waiting 2000 years, but not much longer if Putin does a Bush and unilaterally invades the Middle East for the oil or whatever.

Yes I remember the output of the Ice Age returning and by the early 80's we would be shivering in the southern part of the US just to keep alive. Do U remember the atomic bomb drills of the 50's when we had to get under our desks and put our hands over our heads, then they changed that to going into the hallways and sitting and putting our hands over our heads. They figured the windows in the classrooms would blow into the room and injure us so we had to go to the hallway. Now the ice caps are melting and it is our fault too. Well, they can KISS this-----

The stuff in the 70s was a few guys with no good data and no backing from any major scientific organizations.

They in no way resemble today's global warming scientists, with huge amounts of data and backing from EVERY major scientific organization in the world.

What they most resemble is today's so called "skeptics". More here:

I'm sorry if your teachers overreacted to the few stories back then, but it's really not at all the same thing.

no one will be held accountable.
this is probably a normal cycle that the earth is going though and we will deal with it as it comes. all of the hype on global warming now is a good thing as it will get everyone to be more environmentally friendly. which in turn will make our precious earth last a lot longer. also i think the US plays a huge role in trying to get the world away form using oil. end result is us finding an alterative fuel and regaining a huge portion of world power because of it. everything will be ok.
