Thank you! This was a question I just posted myself (check it out if you'd like).
I mean seriously, it's not in the 10 commandments, it wasn't Jesus's dying wish when he was on the cross. I mean you didn't see him sit there and say "I want all gays to be eradicated".
There's a lot worse things out there than having the ability to love, regardless of sex or gender. How about how there are Multi-MILLION dollar churches out there and the followers who give money to it. Couldn't that money better be used to fund community programs, provide housing to people who have NONE, provide programs like after school programs to keep kids of drugs and from having promiscuous sex?.
I'm so sick of seeing organized religion becoming more like a buisness that only supports itself. You want to do something good? You want to make a difference in the world? Why don't they start by getting INVOLVED in it? Instead of seculding themselves from the REAL world because they think they are so much BETTER than it?
Guess what? In the REAL world, drug use exists, teenage pregnancy exists, crooked politicians exist, sky high college tuition rates exist that force some people to not be able to go to college, single parenthood exists.
Stop throwing money at problems and get IN the problem. Money doesn't solve everything. And we don't need another television evangelist or multi million dollar church.
What we need are people who are willing to be educated and show some compassion.

There's an old saying that "When you point your finger at someone else, three fingers are pointing back at you."

Homosexuality scares a lot of people on many levels. There are the closet homosexual Christians who are doing what is known as "Projected Identity". This means that they feel a sense of self repentance when they attack homosexuals on the sinfulness of what they are doing. Then you get the people who may not be homosexuals, but have been so influenced by others that they perpetuate the persecution of gays. And then finally, there are just those who are flat out disgusted with the concept of homosexuality that it becomes a sin that is more focused on than the others.

Perhaps because it is one of only a few "sins" that people try to promote as "natural" and not sinful...not unlike waving a red flag in front of a bull. When was the last time you heard someone try to defend murder or lying or stealing as normal and acceptable behavior? If you found out that your child's school was teaching him or her that it was ok to steal or that people who molest children were just "born that way so it's ok" how loudly would you object?

Having said that, I would point out that persecuting gays is also a sin! In the eyes of God, hating another person is the same as murdering that person...condeming other people to hell, treating them with disrespect, picking on them...these are all SINS! Far too many Christians need to get that "plank" out of their eye before they run around picking at the "speck" on someone else's eye!

I agree that, as far as God is concerned, sin is sin...but that doesn't mean sin isn't cumulative or that it all has the same consequences beyond the basic one ("the wages of sin is death"). One sin is wrong, no matter what the sin...but sin can be compounded by another sin. Which is worse, telling a "white lie" or killing a person? Overeating or grand theft? At least in the case of homosexuality, the primary victim of that sin is the person that practices it. I would argue that Christians who persecute gays are doing something much worse because they are victimizing other people too!

'persecute' is extreme.

Jesus was persecuted. THAT is suffering. Gays are getting their collective panties in a bunch because they cant legally call a man 'wife' and a woman 'husband' and plaster their alternative lifestyle on every channel and not just logo and mtv.

That said, Gays can go to school wherever they want. Black people couldnt do that for a long time. No one is tearing the skin off the backs of gays with high pressure firehoses for trying to drink from a fountain or eat at a lunch counter. No one is dragging gay men from the back of their truck till the body rips apart. No one is hanging gay men or carting them off to concentration camps....

So puleeeeeeze STOP being dramatic and saying gays are being persecuted.

And for those who keep pulling this "judge not" scripture, verse 5 which states, "Hypocrite! FIRST remove the plank from your own eye, and THEN you will see clearly to remove the speck from your brother's eye." SOME Christians have done that. They have admitted their own defilement and repented and turned away from sin so they are the best ones to IDENTIFY the sin in others and bring it to a fellow sinner's attention. The Word ALSO says... "Do not judge according to appearance, but judge with righteous judgment.” John 7:24

It does not say DONT JUDGE AT ALL...

As a Christian I will just have to say this about my so called brothers and sister who do this, they are just trying to point out the sin of another to hide their own. How can a Christian who sins and they know they do because the bible says so, point their finger at another and judge?

It is a great leap from, " based upon my Christian faith, I do not support homosexual marriage", to persecution.

If ASKED if I support homosexual marriage, I say "no".
If ASKED if I approve of homosexuality, I say "no."
If ASKED if God denounces it in the Bible, I say "yes".

That is NOT persecution, that is an exchange of ideas, or speaking my mind, which I am as entitled to do as you are. If you ask a question, you must be prepared for the answer.

Persecution means that I seek you out for the purpose of harrassment, ridicule or to cause you harm. I am not guilty of this, most Christians are not guilty of this, most people are not guilty of this. Not getting the approval or acceptance that you seek does not qualify as persecution.

Brainwashing.

Nick- I think you entirely miss the point of xianity. You know they are suppose to be love & light. BTW, it is your Gods job to judge, not his sheeple. Get over yourself & let your God deal with each of you as it states in your bible. Check yourself, you are a sinner as well.

Boomrat, quit with the propaganda. No gay is forcing their lifestyle into your home or personal life. You wishing or saying gays are child molesters doesn't make it the truth. You are aware that most child molesters (male) are straight married xians. They do it for power & domination, not the sexual thrill. You really need to quit with false propaganda & get educated.

Gay is this phase right now, people will get over it. When someone says gay, they think oh my gosh they sleep with each other, they do those gross things . . . but thats because they don' think of other things like maybe they were abused or maybe they were born that way. There are a lot of people out there that only think one way. There have been tons of phases, hippies:bad!! Witchery:Bad, everything has a phase!!

Most Christians don't participate in such things. Unfortunately fundamentalists are louder and more visible than those who practice more than preach. Please understand that the fundanazis only speak for themselves and followers of Christ have no control over what they claim to represent.

Oh yeah, they are sooooo persecuted. Just because we do not accept their immoral lifestyle does not mean that we don't love them or that we persecute them.
