I am doing an experiment on how fast certain pills dissolve in the body. I was planning on just putting the capsule in some water and watching the time, but then I realized that the body has acid and other stuff which probably has a major effect. What liquids can I use or mix together that would give me the closest result to that of the human system?

slightly watered down vinegar, and make sure to mix it up to simulate the stomach churning.

Even if you have access to concentrated hydrochloric acid, it won't replicate conditions in the upper gastrointestinal tract. It'll do if you're just trying to slap something together for a high school science fair, but don't expect to take any prizes.

Stomach acid has a pH of about 2-3, so try something in that range.
