I have heard from many sources, usually waitresses, that black people either do not tip or if they do are bad tippers. Waitresses dont like to wait on them, not because of race but because they know the tip will suck.

If you're getting tips for bagging, then you're lucky! I've rarely seen that before, and if my memory serves me correctly, I think that I once had tipped a bagger and they acted resentful. So that was the end of a good thing there. Keep up the good work and put some of your earnings in a Roth IRA for your retirement. Seriously.

You don't say where your black neighbourhood is. Generally speaking, and please forgive me I don't mean to be rude, black neighbourhoods are generally of a lower socio-economic demographic and have less disposable income so cannot afford to tip. Aborigines for instance, in my experience, have a cultural predisposition to share whatever they have regardless of how little they have - with their own, however this does not extend to services provided, nor those that are not racially related. You don't say whether you are paid a wage, or whether your income is reliant on tips. I have also noticed that often the wealthiest of whites are the tightest scrooges - after all I guess that is how some of them became wealthy.

As a white person I would give you a tip even if you were white brown or yellow. If you loaded my bag and put it in the car. I wish you could change jobs and go and work for my store.

I`ll just tell you this you are responsible for what you do.Thinking about what other people are doing is the least.Your good deeds are not being overlooked by blacks its just that some don`t have good tipping sense.Always remember that ,plus don`t expect anything and you just might get everything.

well at the risk of sounding mean/racist-i used to go to a beauty school where we did white/hispanic/asian hair and i would get tip liked crazy and if a black person came in they never tipped....then i transfered to a mainly black hair school-our clients were black. they would be sooo nasty to me that i didn't know how to do their hair and never tipped. towards the end of my schooling i got better at handling these clients and they would say that i did hair better than any black hairdresser and would tip me like crazy. my teacher who was black said that black people just don't tip they don't see the need for it?

Probably related to an attitude of being owed something. I worked my way through college as a waiter and noticed the same thing.
