Your limit is between Laphroaig and Ardbeg - both are one of the Islay type scotch whiskys (my fav!!) - I'd pick Laphroaig. However, I prefer Caol Isla over both of 'em!!

That is a very subjective question. There are many different types and many different subtleties that would influence preference. If you are asking how to pick a good scotch (I am assuming you are not a scotch drinker), just keep in mind the basics. There are many fine blended scotches, and some scotch drinkers actually prefer those, but in general, "single malt" scotch is considered preferable, and older is better. Single malt will be clearly marked on the bottle or package.

If you are buying for company or for a gift, I highly recommend finding a friend of the person and asking them what kind they prefer. It is, as I said, highly subjective.

My personal favourite whisky is Bowmore Darkest, from the Bowmore distillery on Islay. If you like whisky, I think you may enjoy the site I link to below...

Arthur Bell & Son's Special Reserve. Bought it for a mate on his 21st birthday and he poured me a double. Very smooth.
